TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Turnovers and missed free throws proved costly in a 63-51 loss to North Greenville on Friday evening in Conference Carolinas action.

Destiny Robinson was one of the bright spots from the Hawks with her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Robinson added three blocks. Brianna Copeland chipped in with eight points, while Demetria Bland and Monique Jones added seven points each.
Chowan committed 34 turnovers in the contest including 18 in the first half. The Hawks defense held NGU to 25.9% shooting in the first half.
The Hawks were 7-17 from the charity stripe while the Crusaders went 17-24.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan connected on their first three shots of the contest as Destiny Robinson and Keibra Hopkins scored to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead early. After a NGU bucket, Demetria Bland knocked down a triple to lead 7-2.
The Hawks' defense played tough limiting the Crusaders to 1-10 from the floor before the media timeout. Brianna Copeland knocked down a triple to lead 10-2. NGU answered with a three-pointer before Kyani Moore connected on the front-end of a three-point play to push the lead to 12-5.
After a pair of sloppy possessions by both sides, NGU cut into the deficit with a jumper. Destiny Robinson quickly answered with an old-fashioned three-point play with two minutes remaining in the opening stanza.
NGU scored the last seven points to end the quarter with five points at the stripe to trail 15-14.
Second Quarter:
Neither team was able to find the bottom of the net in the early portion of the quarter until NGU went 1-2 from the stripe to even the game at 15-all. Monique Jones converted a putback to keep the Hawks on top.
The lead would swap hands over the middle portion of the quarter as NGU took their first lead of the game, 18-17. Monique Jones finished a fastbreak layup after a steal, but NGU would answer at the other end to regain the lead.
Chowan would go on an 8-0 run to hand the lead back to the Hawks as Brianna Copeland, Emaree Hinton, Destiny Robinson and Jazmine Davis posted a bucket each to lead 27-20.
NGU ended the run with a jumper and a pair from the stripe to cut the deficit to 27-24 at the break.
Third Quarter:
The Hawks struggled from the floor to start, but the defensive intensity was amped up forcing five turnovers. Aniah Patterson would post a bucket and a block along with a point by Monique Jones from the stripe before NGU regained the lead 31-30 with a 7-0 run.
Aniah Patterson went 1-2 from the stripe before Destiny Robinson followed up the second miss with a layup. Neither team was able to find the stroke from the floor as NGU climbed back to take the lead 34-33 from the stripe.
Destiny Robinson went 1-2 from the stripe to even the score before a bucket by NGU put the Crusaders out in front with their largest lead of the contest, 36-34. Robinson added another layup before NGU finished off the three-point play, 39-36.
Demetria Bland inched the Hawks closer with a 1-2 trip to the line before Keibra Hopkins hit a jumper to trim the deficit to 40-39. NGU answered with a layup in transition to lead 42-39 heading to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
NGU went on a 9-2 run to start the quarter to lead by double-digits, 51-41. Destiny Robinson posted a pair from the stripe for the only points for the Hawks during the offensive sputter. Emaree Hinton added a jumper before NGU countered with a quick 8-0 run.
Monique Jones ended the run with a jumper. Demetria Bland knocked down a triple to close the gap to 59-48 with 2:44 remaining. NGU kept the distance from the free throw line before a three pointer by Brianna Copeland.
