HAWKS FILES
Chowan went 3-1 last weekend at the Hawks Softball Classic to improve to 6-9 on the season. The Hawks picked up a pair of run-rule victories on the final day as the Hawks outscored their opponents 49-13.
Paige Wilhelm leads the offense with a .439 batting average followed by Jesse Gentry hitting .405 and Meredith Morgan hitting .400. Morgan leads the team with 12 RBI along with Lindsey Stigler and Shannon Buchanan also with 12 RBI. Morgan, Stigler, and Brittany Parson have two home runs each.
Megan Vincent improved to 4-4 in the circle with 43 strikeouts. Carleigh Wildeboer picked up her first win of the season against the Vikings.
THE FAMILIAR TROJANS
The host, Virginia State, is 2-8 on the season and will take on Pace before the tournament starts on Saturday in a doubleheader.
Taylor Bilyard is hitting .409 at the plate this season. Stephanie Sandridge leads the team with 12 hits while hitting .375 with five RBI.
Opponents are hitting .358 as a team against the Trojans while scoring 8.6 runs per game.
AVOIDING THE RAIDERS' ATTACK
Shippensburg enters the tournament with a 7-3 overall record after competing in a pair of tournaments. The Raiders went 3-1 at the Glenville State tournament.
Alyssa Nehlen leads the team with a .462 batting average. Hannah Marsteller, Taylor Radziewicz, and Morgan Fetter have double-digit RBI totals. The Raiders have drawn 48 walks this season.
Tressa Kagarise is 3-2 in the circle this season with a 2.25 ERA and 29 strikeouts.
THE PACE SETTERS
Pace opens their spring season at Virginia State in a doubleheader before competing in the tournament. The Setters went 23-20 last season.
THE BIG BLUES
Bluefield State enters the tournament with a 3-3 record and comes off a pair of losses to UVa-Wise during the week.
Hannah Fisher leads the team with a .375 batting average. Jessi Foster and Alexis Ray lead the Big Blues with four RBI.
