MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team wrapped up the Hawks Softball Classic with a 3-1 record after a pair of run-rule victories on the final day of the Classic on Sunday.

Chowan hit .471 on the afternoon in the doubleheader with 24 hits and 23 RBI.
Meredith Morgan paced the Hawks with a 4-6 effort at the plate. Brittany Parson with 3-4 with six RBI. Brooklynne Johnson would go 3-4 with four RBI in the nightcap.
Jesse Gentry and Paige Wilhelm picked up three hits. Hannah Naifeh and Delaney Devor tallied two hits each.
Megan Vincent and Carleigh Wildeboer picked up wins in the circle. Vincent tossed a complete game shutout with eight strikeouts while allowing two hits. Wildeboer tossed 3.0 innings allowing one run off six hits. Serena Riley tossed 2.0 innings of shutout action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chowan 9, Frostburg State 0 – five innings
Chowan took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Paige Wilhelm singled up the middle to start the contest. Wilhelm would swipe second and moved to third on a wild pitch. Brittany Parson hit a sacrifice fly to plate Wilhelm for the opening run of the game.
The Hawks would take advantage of two errors by the Bobcats to lead 5-0 in the second inning. Jesse Gentry started off the inning with a one out infield single. Meredith Morgan and Hannah Naifeh reached on errors to load the bases. Shannon Buchanan plated a run after being hit by a pitch.
Frostburg State switched pitchers with bases loaded before RBI singles by Paige Wilhelm and Daleney Devor kept the bases loaded. Brittany Parson delivered another sacrifice fly to lead 5-0 and score Shannon Buchanan.
Meredith Morgan started a rally in the third inning as she singled to right and moved to second as the attempted throw at first sailed over the head of the first baseman. Hannah Naifeh singled up the middle to plate Morgan. Shannon Buchanan reached on a throwing error before Naifeh scored on a wild pitch to lead 7-0.
Chowan tacked on two more runs in the fourth to lead 9-0 as Delaney Devor reached on a fielding error. Brittany Parson reached on a fielder's choice as the attempt to get Devor at second would sail into the outfield and allowed Devor to scamper to third. Beth Walker produced a RBI groundout before Jesse Gentry doubled home Parson for the final tally of the contest.
Frostburg State had their best chance of the contest in the fifth inning as a lead-off walk and a bunt single put a runner in scoring position. Megan Vincent picked up back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
Chowan 17, Elizabeth City State 1 – five innings
ECSU started off the contest with a double to left center and later scored on back-to-back two out hits to plate the opening run of the game.
The Viking lead would not hold long as Delaney Devor singled and swiped second with one out. Brittany Parson singled up the middle to plate Devor. Beth Walker drew a walk and Jesse Gentry singled to left to load the bases. Meredith Morgan unloaded the bases with a single to right field. The hit would go in between the legs of the right fielder and allowed Morgan to advance to third. Hannah Naifeh produced a ground out to plate Morgan to lead 5-1. Mikayla Luskin delivered a pinch hit single and moved to second on a wild pitch before Brooklynne Johnson tripled allowing Luskin to extend the lead to 6-1.
Chowan pushed their lead to 14-1 in the second inning with an eight run outburst on six hits. Delaney Devor drew a lead-off walk before Brittany Parson singled. After a fielder's choice, Jesse Gentry hit a sacrifice fly for the opening run of the rally. Meredith Morgan singled up the middle and swiped second before Walker scored on a wild pitch. Hannah Naifeh singled and Mikayla Luskin drew a walk to load the bases.
The Vikings made a pitching change with one out in the inning. Brooklynne Johnson and Paige Wilhelm picked up RBI singles before a wild pitch allowed another run to score. Delaney Devor was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Brittany Parson. Parson hit a double down the right field line to unload the bases to lead 14-1.
ECSU posted two hits in the third inning but a double play ended the threat.
Chowan would once again loaded the bases as Brooklynne Johnson singled home a pair with one out. Lindsee Howard reached on a bunt single but was left stranded.
In the fourth inning, Alexis Grim doubled to left center to start the inning. Jesse Gentry and Mackenzie Taggart drew walks to load the bases before Mikayla Luskin was hit by a pitch to plate a run for the final tally of the game, 17-1.

Chowan has the week off to prepare for the VSU Trojan Invite hosted by Virginia State in Petersburg, Va. on March 7-8. The Hawks will take on Virginia State, Shippensburg, Pace, and Bluefield State.
