MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team split a pair of one-run contests in their home opener against East Stroudsburg on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Brock Cross, Trenton Lee, and Jack Kane picked up two hits each. Cross and Kane posted two RBI each.
Jared Fry hit a solo home run in the first game and went 0-1 in game two with two walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Wyatt Beakler was credited with a no-decision tossing 6.2 innings allowing four hits and an unearned run while striking out eight.
Caleb Peterson picked up the win in the nightcap tossing 3.0 innings allowing one run in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 1, East Stroudsburg 2
Travis Cross was the first base runner for the Hawks with a two out walk in the first inning. Trenton Lee recorded the first hit with a single to center in the second inning.
Jared Fry would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with a no-doubt home run to right center.
Wyatt Beakler kept the Warriors off balance with clean innings until the top of the seventh. East Stroudsburg started the inning reaching on an error. A single and a sacrifice bunt pushed runners to second and third. A sacrifice fly would bring the tying run in.
Jack Kane picked up a single in the bottom of the inning but the Hawks were shut down the next three batters.
ESU would string together two hits and a walk in the top of the ninth inning to plate the go-ahead run, 2-1.
In the bottom of the ninth, Travis Cross singled and moved to second on a ground out. Noah Cartwright drew a walk but would be stranded in scoring position.
Game Two: Chowan 6, East Stroudsburg 5
The Warriors manufactured a run in the top of the first inning as the lead-off man doubled. A ground out pushed the runner to third and what looked to be a single to right allowed the runner to score before the batter missed first base.
The Hawks looked to answer in the bottom of the inning as Jared Fry drew a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Fry moved to third on a ground out but would be left stranded.
Trenton Lee looked to spark a rally in the second inning as his misplayed base hit to left moved him into scoring position with one out. The Warriors' pitching staff shut down the rally.
ESU added three runs in the top of the fourth inning on three hits and two walks. Caleb Peterson came in and shut the door with two ground outs to keep the deficit at 4-0.
Chowan rallied in the bottom of the fifth inning as Patrick Krack and Tyler Jones drew a one-out walk. Jared Fry loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Krack came around to score on a passed ball before Travis Cross loaded the bases with a walk. Jack Kane closed the gap to 4-3 with a two RBI single to left field. Brock Cross gave the Hawks the 5-4 lead with a two RBI double to left center. B. Cross came around to score on a wild pitch to lead 6-4.
Caleb Peterson ran into a jam in the top of the sixth inning as the Warriors plated a run on two walks, a hit-by-pitch and a single. Peterson picked up a punchout to end the inning up 6-5.
The Warriors looked to find the tying or go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh inning as two walks with one out spelled the end for Caleb Peterson. Jared Fry would throw out a runner looking for third. Jarret Henderson loaded the bases with a pair of walks before a foul out ended the game.
