MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team had to adjust their home opener yet again with the inclement weather that swept through the region this week. The Hawks were originally scheduled to play Virginia State and Virginia Union this weekend.
Chowan's doubleheader with Virginia State has been postponed with the intent of playing Virginia Union on Sunday.

Chowan split their opening games of the season against UNC Pembroke as first year head coach Ashley Gustafson earned her first win in the first game. Chowan outhit the Braves in both games but was unable to produce enough runs in the second game for the sweep.
Shannon Buchanan has embraced her new role in the lineup as an outfielder leads the team with a .500 batting average. Brittany Parson, Lindsey Stigler, and Paige Wilhelm picked up two hits each in the series. Parson, Stigler, and Meredith Morgan recorded a home run.
Megan Vincent is 1-0 in the circle this year. EmaRae Flores took the tough loss allowing one earned run in the 3-1 loss.
CAGING THE PANTHERS
Virginia Union is a familiar foe for Chowan as a member of the CIAA. The Panthers went 8-21 last season including 2-8 in their last 10 games.
Brenda Reninga is the leading hitter from last season with a .436 average. Audrenik Howard hit .278 while leading the team with four home runs and 20 RBI.
Mya Lowe and Summer Moroch return in the circle for the Panthers picking up three wins each.
