PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team picked up their first win of the season blasting three home runs in a split against UNC Pembroke on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Shannon Buchanan led the team with three hits on the afternoon picking up two RBI. Brittany Parson blasted her 23rd career home run to tie the program mark with former CU standout, Kris Neal. Parson picked up two hits in the win.
Meredith Morgan and Lindsey Stigler also hit home runs in the win. Stigler produced two RBI.
Megan Vincent picked up the win in the circle tossing a complete game. EmaRae Flores took the tough loss in game two allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits and five walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 5, UNC Pembroke 3
Brittany Parson would start off her senior season with a bang smashing the first pitch she saw over the centerfield wall to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
UNC Pembroke would answer the bell in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run to take the lead 2-1.
Meredith Morgan would tie the game in the second inning with a solo home run to left field.
The Braves looked to regain the lead in the bottom of the inning as two walks threatened but Megan Vincent picked up two groundouts to end the threat.
Paige Wilhelm picked up her first collegiate hit in the third with a single to center. Wilhelm swiped second before Delaney Devor drew a walk. The Braves' pitcher would shut the door with three straight punch outs.
The Hawks would add a run in the fourth inning as Meredith Morgan drew a lead-off walk. Haleigh Reid singled to right field. Shannon Buchanan produced a RBI single up the middle to plate a run and lead 3-2.
UNCP would draw even in the bottom of the fifth inning as a double and a one out single allowed a run to score. Megan Vincent closed the door in the inning with a pair of strikeouts.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, Brittany Parson picked up a full-count walk. Lindsey Stigler would give the Hawks the advantage as her long fly ball would tip off the glove of the centerfielder trying to bring it back into the park for a two-run home run.
The Braves made some noise in the bottom of the inning with three straight hits. Megan Vincent settled in not allowing a ball to get out of the infield to seal the victory.
Game Two: Chowan 1, UNC Pembroke 3
UNC Pembroke took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as a lead-off hit by pitch and a stolen base put the Braves in business. A single up the middle allowed the run to score.
Lindsey Stigler and Shannon Buchanan produced singles in the second inning but were unable to plate a run. The Braves extended their lead to 3-0 as a walk and an error sparked a rally.
The Hawks would get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning as EmaRae Flores doubled to left field. Serena Riley moved Flores to third on a single to right. Shannon Buchanan's fielder's choice allowed Flores to score to trim the lead to 3-1.
UNCP looked to push another run across in the bottom of the sixth as the Braves loaded the bases on two walks and an error, but EmaRae Flores would get out of the jam with a punchout.
Chowan was unable to muster a comeback in the seventh inning falling 3-1. Kelsey Sonntag produced a pinch-hit single in the inning.
UP NEXT
Chowan hosts a pair of former league foes, Virginia State and Virginia Union on February 8-9. The Hawks will start with a doubleheader against Virginia State on Saturday and wrap up the weekend with Virginia Union. Both contests will start with first pitches at 12pm.
