MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team's season opener was delayed an extra three days as the Hawks will take on UNC Pembroke on the road on Tuesday afternoon.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play on Wednesday, but because of the threat of inclement weather, the doubleheader has been pushed up a day.

Chowan finished the 2019 season with a 21-22 overall record and their final appearance in the CIAA Softball Championship game. The Hawks, now under new leadership, Ashley Gustafson, and in a new league, Conference Carolinas, will look to accomplish a new goal within the Southeast Region.
The Hawks return 17 players from last season including five of the eight positional "starters".
Beth Walker returns hitting .395 in her career after a monster season of .441 at the plate with 18 doubles and 52 hits. Brittany Parson hit .364 last season as her power numbers dipped a bit with only four home runs but added a team-high 38 RBI. Parson sits with 22 career home runs.
Jesse Gentry hit .363 as a freshman with 13 doubles. EmaRae Flores returns in the circle for the Hawks picking up 11 wins last season. At the plate, Flores hit .368 in 57 at-bats.
KNOWING THE BRAVES
UNC Pembroke enters the contest having already played four games over the weekend with a 3-1 record. The Braves picked up the sweep against Kutztown before splitting with West Virginia State.
Redni Wetherington and Mary Sells leads the team with .438 batting averages. Both have seven hits on the season with Wetherington with a triple and Sells with two doubles.
Raygan Larson has a 1.00 ERA in the circle in three appearances with a win and a save in 7.0 innings of work. Malerie Leviner is 2-0 with a 2.10 ERA.
