MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team heads South to compete in the Patriot Invitational hosted by Francis Marion this weekend for five games.

Chowan is 3-1 on the season after picking up the sweep against Virginia Union last weekend. The Hawks found their groove a bit outscoring the Panthers 21-2.
Lindsey Stigler leads the team with a .556 batting average with two doubles, a home run and five RBI. Haleigh Reid and Paige Wilhelm have a .500 average, while Shannon Buchanan is hitting .455 with two doubles and five RBI.
The team is hitting .357 while limiting the opposition to .165. Megan Vincent is 2-0 in the circle this season with 11 strikeouts and a 1.75 ERA. EmaRae Flores is 1-1 with a 1.40 ERA.
THE HOST PATRIOTS
Francis Marion comes into their tournament with a 7-1 overall record. The Patriots are coming off a split against Newberry on Sunday.
Janecia Hemingway leads the team with a .667 average with 12 hits, two doubles, 10 runs scored and eight RBI. Carson Shannon and Sarah Harkins lead the team with 11 RBI. Hemingway is also 2-0 in the circle.
Katelyn Ellard is 3-1 in the circle this season with a 2.40 ERA and 24 strikeouts.
THE MERCY MAVERICKS
The Patriot Invitational will be the first action for the Mavericks this season. Mercy went 24-26 last season.
Hannah Mueller returns for the Mavericks after putting together a D2CCA All-American Honorable Mention type season last year hitting .456 with 67 hits and 30 RBI.
The Mavericks lost their ace from last year and turns to sophomore Sabrina Gonzalez who went 2-3 in 16 appearances with a 4.63 ERA.
THE LIONS OF MARS HILL
Mars Hill started the season 0-2 and hasn't played since February 4 with their past four contests being called off because of inclement weather. The Lions went 27-18 last season.
Taylor Nilsson leads the team at the plate with a .500 batting average. Emiley Burris leads the team with three RBI and a home run.
Ashly Collins is 0-1 on the season with eight strikeouts in the circle.
