MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to keep pace with the visiting Bulldogs of Barton in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday evening.

Mariah Coker led the Hawks with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Keibra Hopkins chipped in with nine points, while Brianna Copeland and Demetria Bland tallied eight points each.
Chowan was outscored 41-19 in the second half because of 4-29 shooting in the second half after shooting 45% in the first half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Keibra Hopkins tallied the opening four points for the Hawks to hold the slight advantage 4-2. Barton would go on a 13-2 run to lead 15-6. Mariah Coker knocked down a jumper before Teylahna Green ended the run with a jumper.
The Hawks would close the gap to 16-13 as Icez Barnett scored on a layup and Brianna Copeland completed the old-fashioned three-point play.
Chowan continued to keep pace with the Bulldogs as Mariah Coker knocked down a jumper and Brianna Copeland scored the next four points to trail 21-19.
Mariah Coker knocked down a triple at the end of the quarter to trail 23-22.
Second Quarter:
Barton started the quarter on a 12-0 run to led 35-22. Icez Barnett and Keibra Hopkins ended the run with a bucket each.
Another run by the Bulldogs pushed the advantage as Mariah Coker, Keibra Hopkins and Monique Jones tallied a bucket to trail 42-32.
Demetria Bland traded triples with the Bulldogs before a layup by Monique Jones and a basket by Bland ended the half, 47-39.
Third Quarter:
Mariah Coker opened the scoring in the half with a layup before the Hawks scoring went silent for the next four minutes. Barton would go on a 14-3 run before Demetria Bland connected from the floor and went 1-2 from the stripe.
Jahkeria Bagby picked up three points at the line and Brianna Copeland tallied one. Mariah Coker added a layup to cut the lead down to 15, 65-50 with 2:49 remaining.
Barton stretched their lead to 71-51 at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Barton started the quarter on a 10-0 run while holding the Hawks without a point for the first 6:01 of the quarter. Monique Jones tallied the first two points of the quarter from the line.
The Hawks added three more free throws over the next minute. Icez Barnett recorded the lone basket in the quarter at the 1:09 mark.
Barton picked up points down the stretch from the charity stripe.
