Fast Start Fades In Loss To King

BRISTOL, TENN. –  The Chowan Women's Basketball team suffered a 72-45 setback against King on the road in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Keibra Hopkins led the Hawks with 15 points.  Teylahna Green chipped in with eight points on 3-4 shooting.

Monique Jones posted six points and six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Icez Barnett put the Hawks on the board in the contest with a jumper.  Keibra Hopkins posted back-to-back buckets to lead 6-2.  Emaree Hinton converted the three-point play before a 7-0 run by the Tornado evened the score at 9-all.

Following the Chowan timeout, Icez Barnett ended the run with a basket.  Keibra Hopkins kept the Hawks in front with a jumper, 13-11.

King added a bucket before Monique Jones gave the Hawks a 15-13 lead at the end of the quarter on a layup.

Second Quarter:

Keibra Hopkins knocked down a triple and a jumper to keep the Hawks in front 20-15.  Teylahna Green connected from deep before King closed the gap to 23-20 with a quick 5-0 run.

Teylahna Green knocked down another triple before a 15-2 run by the Tornado took the 35-28.  Keibra Hopkins picked up two points at the line during the King run.

Third Quarter:

King started the half with a basket before Mariah Coker, Icez Barnett, and Keibra Hopkins registered a basket each to close the gap to 37-34.

King pushed their advantage to double-digits with a 20-2 run midway through the quarter, 57-36.  Olivia Gaither slowed the run with a jumper.  Gaither connected from the floor to end the run, 57-38.

Fourth Quarter:

Teylahna Green put the Hawks on the board in the quarter with a jumper as the Tornado continued their run.

King led 65-40 at the media timeout as the Hawks were held scoreless for 3:18.  Monique Jones ended the scoreless streak with a pair of jumpers.

Destiny Robinson tallied the final point for the Hawks at the stripe in the 72-45 loss.

UP NEXT

Chowan heads to South Carolinas to take on Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday, February 19 in Central, S.C.  Tip-off is slated at 5:30pm.
