DUE WEST, S.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team saw their late lead slip away against Erskine in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Three players scored in double-figures for the Hawks led by Destiny Robinson with 15 points and nine rebounds. Keibra Hopkins and Mariah Coker chipped in with 10 points each.
Mariah Coker tallied four more assists and added four steals on the afternoon. Keibra Hopkins added seven rebounds.
Chowan and Erskine recorded similar numbers with the notable difference at the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Erskine scored the opening point of the game from the stripe, before Mariah Coker and Keibra Hopkins connected from deep to lead 6-1. Erskine responded with a 6-0 to regain the lead 7-6.
Olivia Gaither knocked down a jumper prior to Erskine went on a 9-3 run to end the quarter to lead 16-11. Brianna Copeland hit a layup and Destiny Robinson went 1-2 from the line.
Second Quarter:
Keibra Hopkins and Brianna Copeland connected from the floor to start the scoring for the Hawks. Destiny Robinson added a pair from the stripe to trail 18-17.
After an Erskine bucket, Keibra Hopkins and Monique Jones added a bucket each to regain the lead 21-20. The lead did not hold long as a 6-2 run allowed the Fleet to lead 26-23. Destiny Robinson recorded a layup.
Monique Jones went 1-2 from the stripe and Mariah Coker hit a jumper to even the score at 26-all. Erskine would lead 28-26 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
Erskine would start to pull away out of the locker room with a 6-2 run to lead 34-28 to force a Chowan timeout. Destiny Robinson notched a jumper during the sputter.
The roles swapped as Chowan went on an 8-2 run to even the game at 36-all and forced an Erskine timeout. Aniah Patterson started the run with a layup along with back-to-back buckets by Monique Jones. Destiny Robinson finished off the run with a layup.
Monique Jones ended a scoreless run with a layup as Erskine led 40-38. The Hawks would go another two minutes without a point as both teams added points at the stripe. Mariah Coker hit two from the stripe.
Teylahna Green connected from deep for the first basket in nearly four minutes to lead 43-42 heading to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Mariah Coker would score three points to add to the Hawks' lead, 46-42, just 1:14 into the quarter. Keibra Hopkins gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game with a triple.
Destiny Robinson offset a Fleet basket with a layup to lead 51-44 with 6:17 remaining. Robinson added a layup to push the lead to 53-44 before five quick points by Erskine cut it to a four point game.
Destiny Robinson tacked on two free throws with 3:48 before Erskine with on an 11-2 run to end the game. Demetria Bland knocked down a jumper to keep the Hawks in front, 57-51, but the Fleet converted 7-9 from the stripe to rally for the win.
