FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Chowan Women's Basketball suffered a 77-55 loss to the league leading Emmanuel Lions on the road in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Demetria Bland led the Hawks with 28 points. Olivia Gaither chipped in with seven points and six rebounds. Mariah Coker's shooting woes continued scoring only two points but hauled in 10 rebounds and added two assists.
Chowan shot 29.0% (20-69) from the floor.
Emmanuel would go to the line 31 times in the contest and picked up 25 points from the charity stripe. The Hawks committed 21 fouls compared to just 12 for the Lions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Destiny Robinson put the Hawks on the board on the first possession with a layup. After a couple trips to the free throw line for the Lions, Emmanuel would lead 6-2. Demetria Bland knocked down a jumper to end the small run. Robinson added a jumper to even the contest at six.
Demetria Bland added a freebie and a three pointer to give the Hawks a 10-8 advantage midway through the opening frame. Emmanuel would regain the lead picking up points from the stripe. Bland and Monique Jones handed the lead back to the Hawks with back-to-back layups.
The Lions would lead 17-14 at the first intermission.
Second Quarter:
Demetria Bland knocked down a pair from the stripe to start off the quarter. Aniah Patterson and Bland added a pair of buckets as the Lions continued to pick up points from the charity stripe, 25-21.
Both offenses sputtered during the middle portion of the quarter as both teams were scoreless for nearly four minutes until Emmanuel extended their lead to 28-21 with an old-fashioned three point play. Demetria Bland would snap the offensive stall for the Hawks with a pull up jumper.
The Lions would continue to exploit the foul trouble driving the lane and picking up points from the stripe to extend their lead to 36-23 with just over a minute to play in the half.
Olivia Gaither snapped another scoreless run by the Hawks with a putback and finished off a three-point play. Emmanuel would lead 38-26 at the break.
Third Quarter:
Demetria Bland and Monique Jones added a pair of points for the Hawks in the opening five minutes of the quarter.
Out of the media timeout, Olivia Gaither finished her own miss to close the gap to 44-32. Emmanuel pushed their lead to 50-32 late in the quarter. Gaither added another bucket before Demetria Bland knocked down a triple to trim the deficit.
Demetria Bland converted a pair from the stripe to keep pace with the Lions. Emmanuel would lead 55-39 heading to the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter:
Mariah Coker put the Hawks on the board to start the quarter as the Lions pushed their lead to 59-41 early. Kaylah Henderson connected from the floor to exchange points down the stretch.
Demetria Bland added to her point total with a pair from the stripe near the midway point of the quarter to trim the deficit to 61-45. Bland connected from deep but the Lions answered at the other end. Bland continued to score for the Hawks with a layup.
Emmanuel would stretch their lead to 74-50 late in the contest. Aniah Patterson added a layup and Jahkeria Bagby knocked down a triple for the final baskets for the Hawks in a 77-55 loss.
