MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team picked up a crucial wire-to-wire win over Southern Wesleyan in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

Mariah Coker led the team with 17 points on 6-9 shooting including 5-7 from deep. Coker recorded her 1,000th point on a three-pointer in the fourth quarter. She added five rebounds and five assists.
Destiny Robinson recorded her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Icez Barnett chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Every Hawk that touched the floor scored in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Mariah Coker started off hot knocking down a triple to start the contest. Keibra Hopkins connected from the floor. Southern Wesleyan would trail 5-4, but that was the closest the contest was for the remainder of the game.
Destiny Robinson produced back-to-back layups and Mariah Coker knocked down a triple to quickly double up the Warriors, 12-6.
Both sides struggled to find the net over the next two minutes until the Warriors knocked down a pair of triples to cut the deficit to 15-12. Chowan rattled off the next 12 points to lead 27-12.
Teylahna Green traded a three pointer with the Warriors before the run started with a Mariah Coker three pointer. Icez Barnett cleaned up the glass with a putback. Olivia Gaither and Mariah Coker connected from deep to end the quarter up 27-12.
Second Quarter:
Monique Jones added to the run in the second quarter with a putback. The scoring slowed for the Hawks and Warriors as Emaree Hinton produced a layup to push the lead to 31-15 midway through the quarter.
SWU cut the deficit to single-digits with a small run but buckets by Kaylah Henderson and Olivia Gaither pushed the lead back to 12, 36-24.
Icez Barnett notched a layup and Olivia Gaither knocked down a triple before the half to lead 41-25.
Third Quarter:
Out of the locker room, Monique Jones knocked down a long distance shot to start the half. Jahkeria Bagby converted twice from the stripe and Aniah Patterson connected on a pull up jumper to lead 48-27.
Demetria Bland knocked down a jumper and Icez Barnett converted a layup to offset the scoring by the Warriors. Mariah Coker, Barnett, and Emaree Hinton chipped in with two points each down the stretch to lead 59-43.
Fourth Quarter:
Mariah Coker tallied her 1,000th point in her career with a three-pointer early in the quarter. Aniah Patterson hit a jumper before Brianna Copeland dialed up long distance to lead 67-49.
Destiny Robinson scored the next five points for the Hawks including a three-point play to push the lead to 23, 72-49. Icez Barnett added a layup along with points by Brianna Copeland, Robinson and Aniah Patterson to end the game, 81-55.
