TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team could not hold off the attack by North Greenville in Conference Carolinas action on Monday afternoon as the Hawks fell 73-59.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Three players were in double-figures for the Hawks led by Mariah Coker with 15 points. Aniah Patterson chipped in with 12 points, while Olivia Gaither scored 10. Coke would added five rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
Keibra Hopkins was 3-3 from deep for nine points in the contest.
Chowan had 12 steals in the contest recording only 12 points on those turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Neither team was able to find the bottom of the net in the early going of the quarter until Monique Jones went 1-2 from the stripe. North Greenville would go on a 9-2 run to lead 9-3 to force a Chowan timeout. Aniah Patterson scored the lone bucket for the Hawks with a putback off an offensive rebound.
Aniah Patterson would end the run with an 8-0 run by herself with back-to-back triples and a mid-range jumper to take an 11-9 lead.
NGU evened the score before Monique Jones and Mariah Coker gave the lead back to the Hawks, 16-11, with a jumper and an old-fashioned three-point play to force a Crusader timeout.
The Crusaders ended the quarter with a 5-0 run to tie the contest at 16-all at the end of the quarter.
Second Quarter:
The run continued for the Crusaders to regain the lead early in the quarter. Mariah Coker knocked down a jumper to slow the run. NGU connected from deep to extend their lead before Demetria Bland hit a jumper.
Olivia Gaither would snap nearly a five minute scoreless streak with a pair from the stripe to trim the deficit to 26-22. Gaither and Destiny Robinson connected from the floor to offset the three pointer by the Crusaders to close the gap to 29-26.
Third Quarter:
Mariah Coker knocked down a triple to start the scoring for the Hawks in the second half. NGU answered at the other end to regain the slight advantage. Aniah Patterson added a layup before NGU connected from deep again to push their advantage to 35-31.
Chowan continued to keep the score close with a jumper by Olivia Gaither. Keibra Hopkins dialed up a shot from distance but the Crusaders would once again answer at the other end. Hopkins knocked down another triple to even the score at 39-all and force a NGU timeout.
Olivia Gaither gave the Hawks a 41-39 advantage with a pair of free throws. The lead would not hold for long as the Crusaders went on a 9-0 run to regain the lead, 48-41, and forced a Chowan timeout.
The lead grew with another NGU basket before Monique Jones slowed the run with a bucket. The Crusaders pushed their advantage to 54-44 at the end of the quarter. Kaylah Henderson went 1-2 from the line at the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Mariah Coker knocked down a triple and Icez Barnett was rewarded with a layup following a steal to cut the deficit to 54-49.
Chowan's defense held the Crusaders scoreless for 4:17 until NGU went 1-2 from the charity stripe. Kaylah Henderson countered the free throw with a 1-2 trip to the line midway through the final stanza.
Mariah Coker connected from the floor but the Crusaders maintained their lead, 61-52, with 2:10 remaining.
Chowan's scoreless run ended as Keibra Hopkins connected from deep to spark a run. Mariah Coker steals the ensuing inbound and scores to cut the deficit to 63-57.
NGU picked up points in the final minute at the charity stripe, while Olivia Gaither connected from the floor for the lone bucket to end the contest.
