Former Brave Returns To Her Roots As Assistant Coach

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Ashley Collins, most notably known as "Tree", returns to her alma mater as the assistant softball coach.

Collins, formerly Rountree, was a middle infielder for the then Braves from 2002-2006 under Meredith Long.  "Tree" hit .307 at the plate with 28 doubles, three triples, and three home runs with 68 runs batted in.  She would draw 62 walks and swipe 35-of-37 bases.  The middle infielder had a .933 fielding percentage and ranks first in Chowan's all-time history with 301 assists.

Prior to coming to Chowan, Collins spent the past three seasons as the head coach at Hertford County High School.  During her tenure with the Bears, she led HC to their first ever winning season, as well as, their first appearance in the NCHSAA 2A State Playoffs.

While at Hertford County, Ashley also taught Physical Education at Bearfield Primary School.

Ashley would receive her Bachelor's degree from Chowan in 2007 in Exercise Science.  She would complete her teaching licensure in Health and Physical Education from East Carolina in 2018.

The Belvidere, N.C. native is married to Joshua Collins and reside in the Hertford County area.
