The Hawks would post 11 blocks in the contest but unable to stop a free swinging Catawba team. Ann-Marie Johnson tallied seven blocks.
Sydney Hiner led the Hawks with six kills. Hiner added nine digs. Ciara Ortega notched 11 assists.
Katie Houston led the team defensively with 12 digs, while Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted 11 digs.
Chowan would be outhit .306 to -.010.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
After keeping the set close early with two kills by Hannah Sladick, the Indians opened the contest up to a 16-8 advantage with a 10-3 run. Ann-Marie Johnson notched two points during the offensive stall with a block and a kill.
Catawba pushed their lead to 24-9 before Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Sydney Hiner posted a kill each. Ann-Marie Johnson and Hannah Sladick teamed up for a block before the Indians took the opening set 25-11.
Second Set:
Hannah Sladick recorded two early kills along with a kill by Sydney Hiner. Chowan would benefit from Catawba errors to keep the set close down 10-9.
Eight straight points by the Indians would move the contest to an 18-9 deficit for the Hawks. Anixa Rosa-Martinez ended the run before another spurt by the Indians took the set 25-12.
Third Set:
Catawba opened up the third set with a 6-1 run, with a block by Ann-Marie Johnson with the lone point.
Chowan cut the deficit to 9-6 with a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam. The Indians countered to take a 17-11 advantage.
Sydney Hiner registered a pair of kills along with a kill by Hannah Sladick and Anixa Rosa-Martinez tried to pull the Hawks closer before the Indians took the set at match.
