MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team rallied back in the series finale against Emmanuel but was unable to pick up the victory in Conference Carolinas action on Sunday afternoon.

Marquise Lanier led the Hawks at the plate going 4-4 with five RBI, a grand slam, a double, and two walks (one intentional).
Nick Rose and Nicholas Lees picked up two hits each. Jack Kane went 1-4 with a home run and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Emmanuel would take a 1-0 lead in the first inning after two walks and a single allowed for the opening tally of the contest.
The Hawks would load the bases in the bottom of the inning as Nick Rose singled and Marquise Lanier drew a walk. Jack Kane drew a walk before three straight outs ended the threat.
The Lions added a run in the second inning and three runs in the third to lead 5-0. Three straight walks in the third sparked a rally for Emmanuel. The Lions pushed their lead to 6-0 in the fourth inning.
Chowan went on attack in the bottom of the fourth inning as Trenton Lee started the rally with a one out walk. Noah Cartwright and Nicholas Lees singled to load the bases. Nick Rose produced a RBI walk before Marquise Lanier launched a grand slam to left field to cut the deficit to 6-5. After a pitching change, Jack Kane was hit by a pitch and two errors allowed an unearned run to score to even the score.
Emmanuel would take a 7-6 lead in the fifth inning. The Lions hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to lead 9-6.
Chowan rallied in the bottom of the inning as Marquise Lanier produced a one-out double. Jack Kane would hit a two-run homer to trim the deficit to 9-8.
The Lions took advantage of miscues in the ninth as a fielding error and two hit by pitches load the bases. Three straight singles allowed Emmanuel to push ahead 12-8.
In the bottom of the ninth inning the Hawks posted a rally. Nicholas Lees singled, while Anthony Jefferson picked up a walk and Nick Rose singled to load the bases. Marquise Lanier tallied a RBI single, but the Lions shut the door with two strikeouts to end the contest for the 12-9 victory.

Chowan will head to Petersburg, Va. on Tuesday, April 9 to take on Virginia State in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1pm.
