ETTRICK, VA. – The Chowan Baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader against former league foe, Virginia State, on the road on Tuesday.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Nick Rose picked up two hits including a home run and a double with four RBI in the doubleheader. Harley Davidson went 3-5 with a RBI and a walk.
Marquise Lanier, Jack Kane, and Anthony Jefferson picked up two hits each. Kane and Jefferson tallied two RBI.
Slade Cowan picked up the win in the opener tossing 6.0 innings allowing two runs off six hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 9, Virginia State 3
Chowan scored early in the contest as Nick Rose led off the game with a double. Rose would swipe second before scoring on Jack Kane's sac fly for the 1-0 lead.
The Hawks would pick up another run in the second inning to lead 2-0. Jared Fry drew a walk to start the inning. Trenton Lee singled before Harley Davidson's single plated Fry.
In the fourth inning, Chowan added four runs on four hits to extend the lead to 6-0. Trenton Lee drew a one out walk and Harley Davidson singled. Anthony Jefferson produced a two out RBI single before Nick Rose hit a three-run home run. Marquise Lanier would single and swipe second but would be left stranded.
Chowan pushed the lead to 8-0 in the sixth inning as Harley Davidson started the inning with a single. Nicholas Lees drew a walk. A ground out by Anthony Jefferson pushed the runners into scoring position for Nick Rose to deliver a sac fly. Marquise Lanier drew a walk and swiped second before Jack Kane singled to plate Lees.
Virginia State would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with a pair of runs. Chowan tacked on a run in the seventh inning as Anthony Jefferson doubled to score Trenton Lee, who reached on a walk before Nicholas Lees singled.
The Trojans plated a run in the seventh as Daniel Whitener picked up a double play to end the contest, 9-3.
Game Two: Chowan 2, Virginia State 11
Chowan picked up the first hit in the contest in the second inning as Tyler Sherrod doubled down the left field line. Sherrod moved to third on a wild pitch but would be left stranded.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Anthony Jefferson drew a one-out walk and moved to third on the failed pickoff attempt. Nick Rose hit a sac fly for the lead.
Virginia State countered with a four run bottom half of the inning with three hits and two walks. Noah Cartwright picked up the double play in relief to end the threat, 4-1.
The Trojans added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with three more runs to lead 7-1. VSU added two runs in the fifth inning as three free passes and two singles did the damage.
Chowan picked up a tally in the sixth inning as Marquise Lanier and Jack Kane recorded a single. Lanier would come around to score as a failed pickoff attempt trying to get Kane at first allowed Lanier to score.
Virginia State countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the 11-2 victory.

Chowan hosts Conference Carolinas foe, Belmont Abbey, in the final home series of the season on April 12-13. First pitch of the series on Friday, April 12 is slated for 2:30pm.
