MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team dropped a pair to open the series against Belmont Abbey on Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Chowan was held to eight hits in the doubleheader led by Nick Rose and Trenton Lee with two hits each. Rose picked his fifth home run of the season and two RBI. Lee tallied a double on the afternoon.
Marquise Lanier recorded his 14th home run of the season and a stolen base in the night cap. Noah Evington, Jared Fry and Brock Cross posted one hit apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 2, Belmont Abbey 9
Belmont Abbey took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after a quick first inning of work by Ryan Gallaccio. Three singles in the inning allowed the run to score. A 5-4-3 double play ended the inning.
Jared Fry picked up the first hit for the Hawks in the bottom of the inning. Trenton Lee singled before a wild pitch pushed both runners into scoring position. Two strikeouts in the inning closed the door.
The Crusaders added two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to lead 4-0. Back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning pushed the lead to 6-0.
Trenton Lee doubled down the third base line to start the bottom of the fifth but was left stranded at third base.
BAC added three more runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 9-0.
The Hawks were able to break through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth inning. Anthony Jefferson drew a two-out walk before coming home on Nick Rose's home run to center.
Noah Evington singled in the ninth along with a walk by Trenton Lee, but the Hawks were unable to do any damage.
Game Two: Chowan 1, Belmont Abbey 8
Nick Rose picked up the first hit for Chowan to lead off the first inning. Jack Kane drew a walk but was left stranded.
Belmont Abbey took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run. The Crusaders plated three runs in the third inning to push ahead 5-0.
Marquise Lanier hit a home run to center field to cut the deficit to 5-1 in the bottom of the third.
Brock Cross picked up a single to left field and moved to second on a fielding error allowing Jared Fry to reach. Three quick outs ended the inning.
The Crusaders added a run in the fifth on a solo home run and two more runs in the seventh inning to take the doubleheader.

Chowan wraps up the series with Belmont Abbey on Saturday, April 13 with a single contest. First pitch is slated for 12pm, weather permitting.
