CENTRAL, S.C. – The Chowan Baseball team suffered a 14-5 setback against Southern Wesleyan in the Conference Carolinas series opener on the road on Friday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Nick Rose and Marquise Lanier tallied two hits in the loss. Lanier recorded a two-run home run and three RBI. Jared Fry picked up two RBI.
Anthony Jefferson picked up one hit and drew two walks. The Hawks left seven on base.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Anthony Jefferson led off the contest with a walk before swiping second base. Jefferson would move to third on a ground out but would be left stranded.
Jack Kane doubled to lead off the second inning. Kane moved to third on the ground out but would be left stranded to end the threat.
SWU took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the inning with a three-run home run.
The Hawks would get on the board in the top of the third inning as Anthony Jefferson reached on a fielder's choice after Nicholas Lees singled to start the inning but was out on the Jefferson at-bat. Nick Rose doubled to left before Jared Fry reached on an error allowing Jefferson to score. Fry would swipe second with one out. Marquise Lanier singled up the middle to score Rose to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The Warriors would answer with three in the third. The Hawks would cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth inning. Nick Rose doubled to right center before coming around to score on Jared Fry's single. Marquise Lanier would hit a two-run homer to left to trim the deficit to 6-5.
SWU answered in the bottom half of the inning with three more runs to push the advantage to 9-5.
The Warriors loaded the bases in the sixth inning and extended their lead as a two out error kept the inning alive. SWU plated three runs in the inning to lead 12-5.
In the eighth inning, Trenton Lee drew a full count walk and swiped second. Lee moved to third on Harley Davidson's single to put runners on the corners. The Hawks would strand the runners.
The Warriors added a run in the seventh and eighth innings to take the victory 14-5.
