MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Errors proved costly in the first two games of the series against Clarion as the Chowan Baseball team split the opening games on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Marquise Lanier and Austin Stevens picked up two hits on the afternoon. Lanier, Nick Rose, and Tyler Jones recorded a double.
Josh Vincent picked up the win in game one allowing one run off four hits and struck out nine in a complete game.
Robert Burns took the loss despite not allowing an earned run in two innings of relief in the night cap.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 3, Clarion 1
Chowan started the contest off quickly as Tyler Jones doubled on the second pitch. Nick Rose doubled to right center to plate Jones for the early 1-0 lead.
Trenton Lee and Austin Stevens picked up hits in the second inning but left stranded.
The Golden Eagles evened the score in the third inning as a fielder's choice and a single allowed Clarion to score.
Neither team managed a rally in the latter half of the contest until the Hawks scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jack Kane started off the inning with a single and moved to second on a balk. Harley Davidson moved the runner to third on a ground out. Trenton Lee reached on a throwing error allowing the run to score. Austin Stevens singled and Tyler Jones drew a walk to load the bases. Nick Rose would draw a walk to plate Lee for the insurance run, 3-1.
After a lead-off walk, Josh Vincent closed the door on Clarion striking out the final three batters for the complete game victory.
Game Two: Chowan 4, Clarion 5 – 8 innings
Marquise Lanier and Jack Kane drew walks to start the contest but was left stranded.
The Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 3-0. Jared Fry drew a walk and moved to second on a groundout by Harley Davidson. Noah Cartwright drew a walk before Nicholas Lees singled up the middle to score Fry for the opening run of the contest. Austin Stevens benefited from a nonchalant play by the outfielder reaching on the error allowing Lees and Cartwright to score, 3-0.
Clarion responded in the sixth inning to take the lead 4-3. The Golden Eagles started off the inning with back-to-back walks. A single and a sacrifice bunt closed the gap to 3-2. Clarion cashed in on an error leading to a sac fly and a single to score two more runs.
Chowan would rally in the bottom of the seventh. Marquise Lanier beat out an infield single and moved to second as Jack Kane reached on a muffed throw. Lanier would get picked off on the attempted double steal. Brock Cross reached on a hit-by-pitch. Jared Fry singled to right to score the equalizer.
The Golden Eagles put a runner on with one out on an error and swiped second. A double to left field allowed the run to score to lead 5-4.
The Hawks were unable to put a runner on in the bottom of the eighth.
