BRISTOL, TENN. – Marquise Lanier picked up seven hits in the doubleheader sweep against King (Tenn.) in the Conference Carolinas series opener for both teams on Monday afternoon.

Marquise Lanier hit his third home run of the season with a solo shot in the opener. Lanier would finish off the doubleheader going 7-9 with a home run and four RBI.
Jack Kane went 3-8 with four RBI, a double and a home run. Brock Cross drew four walks in the doubleheader.
Wyatt Beakler (2-1) picked up the win with the complete game tossing 7.0 innings allowing one run off three hits.
Ryan Gallaccio (1-0) picked up his first win of the season tossing six innings of scoreless ball allowing four hits and five strikeouts. Jack Kane picks up the save tossing the final 2.1 innings allowing one hit and struck out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 10, King (Tenn.) 1
Chowan got on the board with two runs in the top of the second inning. Marquise Lanier started off the inning with an infield single. Brock Cross would draw a walk and Lanier would move to third after an errant throw down after the walk. Jared Fry laid down a sacrifice to score Lanier for the opening run. Jack Kane doubled to right center to score Cross for the early 2-0 lead.
King responded with a run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 2-1. Marquise Lanier would give the Hawks their two run advantage back with a solo home run in the fourth inning to push the lead back to 3-1.
In the sixth inning, Marquise Lanier singled through the left side of the infield and Brock Cross drew a walk with two outs. Jared Fry was the beneficiary of an error by the third baseman leading to two runs. Fry moved to third on the error. Trenton Lee singled to left to plate Fry and force a pitching change.
On the first pitch, Jack Kane goes deep to left field to push the lead to 8-1.
The Hawks added more in the seventh inning as Anthony Jefferson and Nick Rose received the free pass. Harley Davidson singled up the middle to load the bases with no outs. Marquise Lanier singled up the middle to plate two runs to push the advantage to 10-1. Trenton Lee reached on an error to load the bases back up with two outs but was unable to produce any further.
The Tornado attempted a rally in the seventh inning as two singles in the inning threatened. The Hawks would roll the double play to end the contest.
Game Two: Chowan 6, King (Tenn.) 3
Marquise Lanier started off the second inning with a single to right. Brock Cross would draw a walk before Lanier came around to score on an error by the third baseman to take a 1-0 lead.
King looked to rally in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases with one out. Starting pitcher, Ryan Gallaccio, picked up a strikeout and a fly out to end the threat.
Chowan added to their lead in the third inning. Anthony Jefferson drew a one-out walk and swiped second before Nick Rose singled through the right side of the infield to score the speedy Jefferson. Marquise Lanier doubled home Rose to push the advantage before Lanier moved to third on the drop third strike by Brock Cross. Jared Fry singled to right to plate Lanier for the 4-0 lead.
King rallied back in the bottom of the seventh inning as two hits and a walk put the Hawks in a bind. The Tornado plated three runs as an errant throw to first base allowed the bases to clear. Jack Kane shut the door on the inning to keep the Hawks in front 4-3.
The Hawks would get an insurance run in the eighth inning. Brock Cross drew a two out walk before Trenton Lee singled. Jack Kane would bring home Cross on a RBI single to right to lead 5-3.
Chowan would continue adding to their lead in the ninth inning as Anthony Jefferson singled up the middle and swiped second. Nick Rose would hit a slow roller to shortstop and the low throw allowed Jefferson to score. Marquise Lanier would pick up a single to push Rose to second but left stranded.
King put a runner on in the bottom of the ninth and swiped second and moved to third on the throw down. Jack Kane would pick up the strikeout to end the contest.
UP NEXT
With the change in the series against King, the doubleheader series against Stratford is postponed until a later date. The Hawks shifts their focus to Conference Carolinas foe, Barton, in a three-game series starting on Friday, March 1. First pitch is at 2:30pm on Friday.
