WILSON, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team split the Conference Carolinas series against Barton on Saturday afternoon earning the win in the nightcap.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Trenton Lee paced the Hawks with four hits. Harley Davidson, Marquise Lanier, and Nick Rose recorded three hits each. Lanier tallied two doubles and two RBI. Rose posted three RBI.
Brock Cross and Jack Kane notched a home run each in the contest.
Vinny Puma picked up the win in the night cap tossing 4.0 innings of scoreless ball out of the pen with four strikeouts.
Josh Vincent dropped his first decision on the hill tossing 4.2 innings allowing six runs (two earned) as the defense committed six total errors in the outing.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 3, Barton 17
Marquise Lanier recorded the first hit for the Hawks with a double to start the second inning. Brock Cross drew a walk. Lanier swiped third but was left stranded.
Barton scratched across the opening tally of the contest in the third inning recording three hits to take a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 5-0 in the fourth inning with two infield errors and a failed pickoff attempt. Barton added a run in the sixth to lead 6-0.
Trenton Lee and Harley Davidson picked up hits in the middle innings. The Bulldogs continued their attack in the sixth inning loading the bases. A walk and a wild pitch plated two runs before Barton unloaded the bases with a grand slam. Barton pushed their advantage to 16-0 with two more errors.
Justin Winslow reached to start the eighth inning on an error and moved to third on Nick Rose's single. Noah Evington reached on a fielder's choice as an error in the field plated a run.
Tristan Council singled to start the ninth inning. Justin Winslow reached on an infield single. Nick Rose doubled to left center to plate two runs as the score moved to 17-3.
Game Two: Chowan 10, Barton 5 (6 innings)
Anthony Jefferson doubled to left center to start off the nightcap. Nick Rose moved Jefferson to third on a ground out. Trenton Lee singled up the middle to score Jefferson for the 1-0 lead.
Barton benefitted for an error with two outs to spark a rally. Two singles following the error led to a run to even the score at 1-all.
The Hawks exploded for seven runs in the top of the second inning as Jack Kane homered to start the second inning. Nick Lees drew a two out walk to spark a rally. Anthony Jefferson reached on an error before Nick Rose singled to score Lees. Trenton Lee drew a walk to load the bases. Jefferson would score on a balk. Marquise Lanier doubled to plate two more runs and chase the starting pitcher.
Brock Cross welcomed the new pitcher with a two-run home run on the third pitch to extend the lead to 8-1.
Barton countered with four run in the bottom of the second to trim the deficit to 8-5.
Chowan plated a run in the third inning as Anthony Jefferson drew a two out walk. Jefferson swiped second and moved to third on a failed pick-off attempt. Nick Rose drew a walk and allowed Jefferson to score following a run-down, 9-5.
Vinny Puma entered the contest in the bottom of the third inning and shut the Bulldog offense down allowing only two base runners.
Dallas Trevena doubled to right center to start the fifth inning before coming around to score on a Harley Davidson single up the middle, 10-5.
The contest was called in the top of the seventh because of darkness. The Hawks led 14-5 at that point, but stats would not count.

Chowan will look to finish off the series against Barton on Sunday for the final game. First pitch is scheduled for 11am.
