MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Baseball team started off the season with a win and a tie against Coker on opening day at home on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES
Marquise Lanier, Harley Davidson, Tyler Jones, and Brock Cross tallied three hits in the doubleheader. Lanier posted a double and a home run with three RBI. Jared Fry notched three RBI on the afternoon.
Josh Vincent pitched 5.0 innings in game one to pick up the win allowing one run on six hits and notched six strikeouts. Vinny Puma shut the door in game one for the save recording 2.0 innings and two strikeouts.
Robert Burns, Phillip Ashlock and Daniel Whitener pitched in relief, not allowing a run in game two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 4, Coker 1
Tyler Jones started off the first inning with a base hit to centerfield. Jones would move to second on a wild pitch before coming home on the Marquise Lanier double to left center for the 1-0 lead.
The Hawks would extend their lead to 3-0 as Brock Cross started off the inning with a single. Harley Davidson drew a walk. Tyler Jones would plate Cross and Davidson after reaching on an error allowing the two unearned runs to plate.
Josh Vincent kept Coker off the board as Marquise Lanier hit a solo home run to right center in the third inning to give Vincent a 4-0 cushion.
Coker tallied a run in the top of the fourth inning as back-to-back doubles plated a run to cut into the lead 4-1.
Vinny Puma would shut down the Cobras for the save.
Game Two: Chowan 5, Coker 5
Neither side was able to get the bats rolling in the nightcap. Chowan had a chance in the bottom of the second inning as Trenton Lee produced a two-out walk. Noah Evington reached on an infield single and moved up on the passed ball. Tyler Jones drew a walk to load the bases but a pop up ended the threat.
Coker took advantage of five walks in the top of the fourth and two singles to take a 5-0 lead.
The Hawks countered with a five run bottom half of the inning to square the contest at 5-all. Harley Davidson singled to start off the rally. Trenton Lee drew a walk before a single by Tyler Jones loaded the bases. Nick Rose drew a bases loaded walk for the first run of the contest for the Hawks. Jared Fry unloaded the bases with a double to deep left center to close the gap to 5-4. Marquise Lanier singled up the middle to score Fry and even the score.
The sixth and seventh innings went scoreless to preserve the tie.
