Miscues Haunt Hawks In Finale With Lions

FLORENCE, S.C. – In the final game of the Patriot Invitational, Emmanuel (Ga.) took advantage of the Chowan Softball miscues to hand the Hawks an 11-3 loss.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

Brittany Parson led the Hawks going 3-3 at the plate.  Parson notched a double and a RBI in the loss.

Beth Walker, Lindsey Stigler, EmaRae Flores, and Mikayla Luskin tallied the final hits for the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Chowan jumped on the board in the top of the first inning.  Haley Cooper reached on an error to start the contest.  Brittany Parson doubled to right field to bring home Cooper for the opening run of the contest.

In the second inning, EmaRae Flores started off the inning with a single down the left field line.  Miranda Glover would put down a sac bunt to move Flores up to second.  Mikayla Luskin reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners.  Flores would trot home after Luskin stole second on an air-mailed throw by the catcher to lead 2-0.

The Lions took advantage of miscues of the Hawks in the bottom of the second inning as three errors and two wild pitches led to four unearned runs.

Brittany Parson and Lindsey Stigler notched a hit each in the third inning but was unable to score after advancing into scoring position with two outs.

Emmanuel stretched their lead to 6-2 in the fourth inning recording three hits in the inning.  Chowan would pick up a run in the fifth inning as Brittany Parson started off with a base hit to left.  Lindsey Stigler pushed the runner to second on a ground out.  The run would come around to score on a miscue by the Lions as EmaRae Flores reached on a throwing error, 6-3.

The Lions put three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take the victory, 11-3.

UP NEXT

Chowan hosts the Hawks Softball Classic on Saturday-Sunday, February 23-24.  The Hawks will welcome USciences, West Chester, and Mansfield during the Classic.
