BOWIE, MD. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team started off slow shooting 25 percent from the floor in the first half to fall to regionally ranked Bowie State 65-45 in CIAA action on Saturday afternoon.

Danielle Weldon posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hawks. Jada Lee recorded seven points, while Mariah Coker scored six.
Bowie State shot 50% from the floor in the first half to lead 37-17.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Danielle Weldon scored all six points for the Hawks in the first 3:37 of the quarter to give the Hawks a 6-4 lead.
Chowan was held scoreless the rest of the quarter as Bowie State finished off the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 12-6.
Second Quarter:
Danielle Weldon tallied a layup as BSU started the quarter on a 9-2 run. Weldon ended the run with another layup. Weldon continued to score in the contest with a pair from the stripe.
Following the layup by Danielle Weldon, the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 33-12 with a 10-0 run. Jada Lee posted a jumper and two free throws to cap off the quarter as BSU led 37-17.
Third Quarter:
Olivia Gaither and Joanne Williams tallied a bucket coming out of the locker room. Danielle Weldon knocked down a pair from the stripe and Gaither connected from deep to trim the deficit to 43-26.
Danielle Weldon continued to score with a pair from the stripe. Mariah Coker got on the board with a three-pointer.
Bowie State would lead 50-31 heading to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Danielle Weldon tallied a bucket and Jordan Pettaway added a putback as Bowie State led by 20.
The Hawks would go on a 7-0 run as Brianna Copeland and Danielle Weldon added short range buckets. Mariah Coker knocked down a three-pointer during the stretch.
Jada Lee finished the scoring with a three-point play as Bowie State took the victory 65-45.

Chowan faces Lincoln (Pa.) in the final road contest of the season on Wednesday, February 23. Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
