Hawks Fall Short Against Wolves

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Lacrosse team came up just short in a 15-12 loss to Newberry at home on a muddy field on Saturday afternoon.

Patrick Egan tallied a career-high five goals and one assist in the loss.  Jason Jenkins II added a hat-trick with four goals and one assist.

Alex Clabaugh tallied three points with a goal and two assists.

Slater Bender recorded 14 saves in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Chowan grabbed the momentum early as Patrick Egan scored twice in the opening five minutes off assists from Jason Jenkins II and CJ Orland.

After a Newberry goal, Jason Jenkins II scored along with a man-up goal by Patrick Egan off the assist by Alex Clabaugh to give the Hawks a 4-1 lead.

Newberry closed the gap to 4-3.

Second Quarter:

Newberry would knot the contest at four and five as Noah Holloway tallied his first goal of the season.

The Wolves would take the lead 6-5, but Jason Jenkins II found the back of the net off a Quintin Bender pass to even the score at 6-all.

Patrick Egan found the back of the net once again off a pass from Jaxson Martin.  Martin would find Jaylen Pierre for a goal and Egan would find Alex Clabaugh to give the Hawks a 9-6 advantage.

Newberry scored to close the gap to 9-7 at intermission.

Third Quarter:

Out of the half, Newberry scored three times to take a 10-9 lead.  The Hawks countered with a Jason Jenkins II and Patrick Egan goal to regain the lead at 11-10.

Newberry once again regained the lead with two goals to end the quarter.

Fourth Quarter:

The Wolves pushed their lead to 14-11 before Jason Jenkins scored a man-up goal off a pass from Noah Holloway for the final tally of the contest for the Hawks.

Newberry posted the final goal of the game with 1:24 remaining to hold off the Chowan rally.

Chowan hits the road to face Alderson-Broaddus on Saturday, February 23.  Opening face-off is at 2pm.
