BOWIE, MD. – In a strange ending in the final seconds of the contest, the Chowan Men's Basketball team handed Bowie State a 68-66 victory on the road in CIAA action on Saturday afternoon.
Tied at 66-all, Chowan called a timeout with 15 seconds left, and resulted in a technical foul after the Hawks did not have a timeout to call.

Demetrius Sanders led the Hawks with 18 points and seven rebounds. Michael Kelly and Xavier Young recorded 14 points on the afternoon. Timothy Bing missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Chowan led 37-32 at the half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Michael Kelly started off the scoring with a three-pointer. Timothy Bing knocked down a jumper to give the Hawks a 5-2 lead. Kelly added a jumper and Demetrius Sanders knocked down a three-pointer to keep the Hawks ahead, 10-8.
Xavier Young and Demetrius Sanders knocked down a pair of triples to even the score at 16-all. Timothy Bing added a pair at the stripe and Young added a layup to give the Hawks a 20-16 advantage.
Deon Joyner and Timothy Bing posted a bucket each to stretch the lead to eight, 24-16, midway through the half.
Three points by Demetrius Sanders and a layup by Gus Rowland allowed the Hawks to lead by double-digits, 29-19. Sanders tallied the next six points to keep the Hawks in the lead.
Michael Kelly knocked down a pair at the stripe before the buzzer to lead 37-32.
Second Half:
Timothy Bing knocked down a jumper before Bowie State went on an 8-2 run to trail 41-40. Xavier Young added a bucket during the stretch. Demetrius Sanders knocked down a three-pointer to end the run.
Bowie State went on a 14-4 run to take the lead, 56-47, with 9:10 to play. Gus Rowland knocked down three free throws to end the run.
The Hawks would start a run after Michael Kelly's layup. Xavier Young scored the next seven points at the stripe to regain the advantage, 59-58, with 3:13 to play. Kelly added a dunk to cap off the run.
Michael Kelly gave the Hawks a four point lead, 64-60, with 2:06 to play after connecting from deep. The Bulldogs would draw even at 64-all.
Trejvon McFail gave the Hawks a two point lead with 29 seconds left after driving to the basket. Bowie State evened the score at the free throw line.
On the ensuing in-bound, Chowan was facing a five second in-bounds call and called a timeout after using their final timeout on the previous possession. Bowie State was awarded a technical free throw and took the lead 67-66.
Chowan had a chance on the final possession but the attempt was blocked and an offensive foul was called.
Bowie State went 1-2 from the stripe to seal the 68-66 win.
