FLORENCE, S.C. – The Chowan Softball team rallied but was unable to pick up a win in the second day of the Patriot Invitational on Saturday falling to Emmanuel (Ga.) and host Francis Marion.

Haley Cooper picked up three hits on the afternoon and four RBI. Brittany Parson and Jesse Gentry tallied two hits and two RBI in the loss to Emmanuel.
Beth Walker went 4-5 against Emmanuel (Ga.). Brooklynne Johnson picked up a bases clearing triple in the nightcap against Francis Marion.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Chowan 9, Emmanuel (Ga.) 13
Emmanuel (Ga.) tallied a run in the top of the first inning after a walk and a double. The Hawks got out of the bases loaded jam with a ground ball.
The Hawks had a chance to even the score in the bottom half of the inning as Haley Cooper led off with a walk. Beth Walker and Brittany Parson singled to load the bases with two outs.
The Lions added four runs in the third inning as two free passes and four hits led to runs, 5-0.
Chowan cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning as Beth Walker and Jesse Gentry tallied doubles to put a run on the board. Brittany Parson delivered a two out single to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Emmanuel (Ga.) countered with eight runs on seven hits including two home runs to lead 13-2 in the fourth.
Chowan answered with five runs to cut the deficit to 13-7. Hannah Naifeh started the inning with a single. Mikayla Luskin reached on an infield single before Haley Cooper brought the runners home with a double. Beth Walker singled to put runners on the corners before a single by Jesse Gentry scored Cooper.
Lindsey Stigler loaded the bases with a base knock before Brittany Parson drew a walk to score a run. Meredith Morgan produced a RBI ground out to complete the inning, 13-7.
The Lions looked to put an insurance run on the board in the seventh but Donya Salman threw out the runner at the plate to end the inning.
The Hawks rallied in the seventh inning as Hannah Naifeh reached on an error with one out. Donya Salman drew a walk before Naifeh came around to score on Haley Cooper's RBI single to left. Beth Walker singled to score Salman for the final run of the contest, 13-9.
Game Two: Chowan 5, Francis Marion 7
Francis Marion scored in the opening inning of the contest after a double and a sac bunt. The Patriots scored on a wild pitch.
The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the third inning to lead 2-0.
The Hawks would pick up their first hit and base runner in the top of the fifth inning. Brittany Parson reached on an error. EmaRae Flores singled and Leah Spiggle was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Miranda Glover singled to center for the first tally for the Hawks. Brooklynne Johnson cleared the bases with a triple to give the Hawks a 4-2 lead. Haley Cooper brought home Johnson with a single to stretch the lead to 5-2.
Francis Marion chipped away at the deficit in the fifth inning grabbing two runs on three hits and an error to trail 5-4.
The Patriots continued to rally in the sixth to regain the lead 7-5 to take the victory.
