MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The frigid shooting for the Chowan Women's Basketball team hindered their chances of securing a Conference Carolinas victory at home against Erskine on Saturday afternoon.

Jahkeria Bagby tied a career-high with 14 points to lead the Hawks. Mariah Coker and Olivia Gaither added 11 points each. Coker added seven rebounds and six assists on the night. Coker is now five assists shy of the tying the Chowan Division II record.
Teylahna Green chipped in with six points and six assists off the bench.
Chowan would shoot 26.8% from the floor in the contest and 7.7% in the second quarter (1-13).
Both teams combined for 50 turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan dominated the opening five-plus minutes of the contest with a 10-0 run. Jahkeria Bagby started off the scoring with a pair from the stripe. Olivia Gaither and Mariah Coker added a layup each. Coker added her second bucket before Monique Jones joined the scoring.
Erskine would net their first points of the contest 5:49 seconds into the contest, which led to a 6-0 run. Mariah Coker stopped the run with a jumper in transition.
Jahkeria Bagby added a layup after a steal before Erskine knocked down a three to trail 14-9 after the opening 10 minutes of play.
Second Quarter:
Erskine started the quarter with a 5-0 run before Olivia Gaither connected from deep for the Hawks' only field goal of the quarter. The Fleet answered on the other end to even the contest at 17-all.
The Flying Fleet went on an 11-2 run to end the half to lead 28-19. Jahkeria Bagby scored the lone two points for the Hawks from the charity stripe.
Third Quarter:
Demetria Bland would end the scoring drought from the floor for the Hawks with a jumper. Olivia Gaither added a jumper off a pass from Mariah Coker to cut the deficit to 10, 33-23.
Mariah Coker and Teylahna Green knocked down back-to-back triples to cut the deficit to single digits, 37-29. Green added another triple before three freebies by the Fleet answered the call.
Olivia Gaither sparked a small run for the Hawks and was followed up by a three-point play by Aniah Patterson to cut the deficit to four, 41-37, with just under a minute to play in the quarter.
Erskine pushed their lead to 45-37 before the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
A 7-3 run by the Hawks to start off the fourth quarter cut the deficit to four, 48-44. Olivia Gaither scored two from the stripe along with a layup by Mariah Coker and a triple by Keibra Hopkins.
Erskine would continue to push ahead to maintain their lead. Jahkeria Bagby scored the next six points for the Hawks to once again cut the deficit to four, 56-52, with 30 seconds remaining.
Demetria Bland countered the two free throws with a pair of her own as time expired.
