MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball suffered a straight sets defeat at home at the hands of the Conference Carolinas leading Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam led the charge with eight kills each.
Ciara Ortega was one dig shy of a double-double with 15 assists and nine digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Belmont Abbey would take an early 8-5 lead to force a Chowan timeout. The Hawks would get kills by Ann-Marie Johnson.
After a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam, the Crusaders would extend their lead to 18-9.
The Hawks would trim the deficit slightly with a couple blocks by Ann-Marie Johnson, Chloe Putnam, and Nyah Powers. Putnam and Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill before the Crusaders took the set 25-16.
Second Set:
Ann-Marie Johnson put the Hawks on the board in the second set before the Crusaders led 9-5. Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a pair of kills. Hannah Sladick and Chloe Putnam recorded a kill before Sladick and Johnson teamed up for a block to even the score at 10-all and force a timeout.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez gave the Hawks a 13-12 advantage with two kills. Chloe Putnam and Hannah Sladick registered a kill to lead 15-13 before a 12-0 run by the Crusaders took the set 25-15.
Third Set:
Belmont Abbey opened the final set with a 5-0 run. Anixa Rosa-Martinez put the Hawks on the board with a kill. The Crusaders continued to push ahead to lead 11-4. Chloe Putnam ended the run with a kill.
Following another kill by Chloe Putnam, the Crusaders went on an 8-1 run to lead 21-8. Ann-Marie Johnson added a kill to end the spurt.
Chowan was able to rally down the stretch after a couple errors by the Crusaders and a kill and block by Chloe Putnam before falling 25-17 in the set.
