MURFREESBORO, N.C. – A low scoring first half output for the Chowan Men's Basketball Team stymied the Hawks in a 65-58 loss to Fayetteville State on Saturday evening.

Chowan shot 28.6% from the floor in the first half including 1-8 from behind the arc.
Ja'Darien Wade led the team with 16 points. Jaylen Dilliard and Brandon Mayhan added 13 and 11 points respectively.
BJ McLaurin missed a double-double with nine points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
The Hawks converted 22 points off turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Tahkey Williams put the Hawks on the board with a bucket as Fayetteville State raced out to an 11-2 advantage. Ja'Darien Wade ended the offensive stall with a layup.
BJ McLaurin added a jumper in the paint before the Broncos pushed their lead to double-figures, 17-6, midway through the half.
Ja'Darien Wade and BJ McLaurin added a bucket but the Broncos responded on the other end to push the lead back to double-digits. Brandon Mayhan knocked down a triple and Jaylen Dilliard added a jumper to cut the deficit to seven, 23-16.
FSU finished the half on a 9-3 run to lead 32-19 at the half. Jaylen Dilliard added a bucket and BJ McLaurin went 1-2 from the stripe.
Second Half:
Fayetteville State would push their lead to 17, 40-23, just five minutes into the second half. Tahkey Williams and Jaylen Dilliard added points at the stripe.
Trailing 45-26, Brandon Mayhan picked up a steal and went coast-to-coast for the bucket to spark a 16-3 run to cut the deficit to seven, 48-41. BJ McLaurin carried the rally with a jumper followed by a three pointer by Brandon Mayhan and a layup by Ja'Darien Wade. FSU knocked down a three to slow the momentum slightly, but another basket by McLaurin, Wade and Jaylen Dilliard finished off the run.
After two FSU free throws, Brandon Mayhan went 3-3 from the stripe and Ja'Darien Wade knocked down a three to cut the deficit to three, 50-47, with 5:28 remaining.
FSU used a timeout to slow the action and led to a five point swing. The Hawks would stay close with a 7-2 run. Ja'Darien Wade knocked down a three pointer along with two points by Jaylen Dilliard and Tahkey Williams.
The Broncos held off the comeback pushing their advantage to nine. Ja'Darien Wade finished the scoring with a dunk.
