DAHLONEGA, GA. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to overcome a slow first quarter as the Hawks fell to nationally-ranked North Georgia despite a furious comeback on the road on Friday evening in the opening contest of the UNG Nighthawk Classic.

Aniah Patterson and Mariah Coker led the scoring for the Hawks with 16 points each. Patterson would connect 6-13 from the floor, while Coker knocked down four three-pointers.
Destiny Robinson chipped in with nine points, six rebounds, and four steals. Monique Jones added eight points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Chowan outscored North Georgia 62-55 in the final three quarters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
North Georgia showed their dominance early holding the Hawks scoreless for 6:29 of the opening quarter and leading 14-0. Monique Jones connected from deep to put the Hawks on the board.
Destiny Robinson added a layup before the Nighthawks finished off the quarter with a 27-5 advantage.
Second Quarter:
Monique Jones added three points early in the quarter. Teylahna Green added a jumper before UNG led 34-10 midway through the quarter.
Mariah Coker knocked down a three pointer and Demetria Bland added a jumper. The two would duplicate their result before a pair of free throws by Destiny Robinson, Aniah Patterson and Jahkeria Bagby finished off the quarter.
UNG took a 41-26 lead into the half.
Third Quarter:
After four quick points by the Nighthawks to open the half, Chowan would go on a run to chip away at the deficit. Teylahna Green added a layup and Mariah Coker added a four-point play after a steal.
Mariah Coker added another three points along with a layup by Emaree Hinton and a triple by Aniah Patterson trimmed the deficit to single digits, 48-40.
Aniah Patterson continued the scoring with a pair of buckets along with a three pointer by Olivia Gaither to keep the deficit in single digits.
Mariah Coker and Aniah Patterson knocked down triples and Patterson added a jumper before the end of the quarter to trail 64-55.
Fourth Quarter:
After a Destiny Robinson trip to the charity stripe, Olivia Gaither knocked down a three pointer and Aniah Patterson went coast-to-coast for a steal and score to cut the deficit to 66-61.
Destiny Robinson added a layup before North Georgia finished off the contest on a 14-3 run to take the victory 82-67. Monique Jones and Robinson would pick up points at the stripe down the stretch.

Chowan wraps up the UNG Nighthawk Classic on Saturday, November 16 against Georgia College. Tip-off is slated for 1:30pm.
