Robinson's Career-High Not Enough Against Bobcats

DAHLONEGA, GA. – Destiny Robinson's career-high 19 points were not enough for the Chowan Women's Basketball team in the final game of the UNG Nighthawk Classic as Chowan fell to Georgia College 59-54 on Saturday afternoon.

Destiny Robinson produced a career-high 19 points and added seven rebounds in the loss.  Mariah Coker added 11 points, three assists, and four steals.

Jahkeria Bagby scored eight points, while Olivia Gaither and Monique Jones added six points each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter:

Olivia Gaither put the Hawks on the board early with a three pointer.  The Bobcats used a 6-0 run to lead 8-3 before Destiny Robinson hit a jumper.  Gaither connected from deep again to knot the game at 8-all with 4:23 remaining in the quarter.

Destiny Robinson added a pair of jumpers to keep pace with the Bobcats.  Jahkeria Bagby added a jumper to finish off the quarter trailing 15-14.

Second Quarter:

Monique Jones added a jumper to start the quarter to give the Hawks a 16-15 lead.  Keibra Hopkins notched a layup as the lead flipped hands throughout the quarter.

Destiny Robinson posted two more buckets to keep the Hawks within striking distance.  Jahkeria Bagby would do the same to even the score at 26-all.

Mariah Coker knocked down a three-pointer at the end of the half to send the Hawks into the locker room knotted up at 31-all.

Third Quarter:

Monique Jones registered a layup to start the scoring in the second half.  Georgia College went on an 8-0 run to lead 39-33.

The Hawks would counter with a quick 7-0 run to regain the lead 40-39.  Destiny Robinson added three points, while Brianna Copeland and Mariah Coker added a bucket each.

Destiny Robinson added two more buckets to keep the Hawks on top 44-43 heading into the final stanza.

Fourth Quarter:

The scoring went cold for the Hawks as Georgia College went on a 6-0 run in the first four minutes of the quarter to lead 49-44.  Mariah Coker ended the run with a layup but the Bobcats answered on the other end.

Mariah Coker traded free throws with the Bobcats midway through the quarter before a Monique Jones layup and a pair at the stripe by Coker pulled the Hawks to within two, 56-54, with 3:36 remaining.

Both offenses struggled down the stretch as Georgia College scored three points to take the contest 59-54.

Chowan hosts Francis Marion on Wednesday, November 20 in their home opener.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
