ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team suffered an 82-73 loss to cross-town rival, Elizabeth City State, on Thursday evening in non-conference action.

Xavier Young led the team with 17 points going 4-8 from behind the arc. Jaylen Dilliard posted a season-high 14 points recording most of his points at the stripe. Ja'Darien Wade added 16 points.
BJ McLaurin chipped in with eight points and a team-high seven rebounds. Chowan was held to 21 total rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Xavier Young put the Hawks on the board early with a three pointer. Brandon Mayhan added a pair from the stripe to push the lead to 5-2. Mayhan would add a three-point play before the Vikings knotted things at 8-all.
The lead would exchange hands as Tahkey Williams and Ja'Darien Wade knocked down triples. ECSU would answer on the other end to lead 16-14.
BJ McLaurin added a tip-in and Xavier Young knocked down another three pointer before the Hawks had to claw back in it with a McLaurin jumper and Brandon Mayhan three pointer, 24-23.
Elizabeth City rattled off seven straight points prior to a Xavier Young triple and Ja'Darien Wade's layup to cut the deficit to one, 30-29.
The Vikings looked to pull away but the Hawks would not let the lead get too far ahead as Jaylen Dilliard added a bucket and Jamal Thomas knocked down a three pointer.
BJ McLaurin added a jumper and Jaylen Dilliard added a three pointer to end the half down 44-40.
Second Half:
Chowan used a quick 5-0 run out of the locker room as Xavier Young connected from deep and Ja'Darien Wade hit a jumper to take the 45-44 lead.
ECSU countered with a 6-0 run to regain the lead. Jaylen Dilliard and Ja'Darien Wade dialed up shots from deep but the Vikings had the answer.
Trailing 55-52 with 13:15 remaining, ECSU went on a 24-6 run spanning 12:45 seconds to open up the contest 76-61. All six points for the Hawks came at the charity stripe. Ja'Darien Wade ended the run with a three pointer.
Ja'Darien Wade added another three pointer down the stretch and Jamal Thomas converted a layup to end the contest.

Chowan returns home to take on another former league opponent, Fayetteville State, on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 5pm.
