DUE WEST, S.C. – Behind three double-doubles and a tough fight, the Chowan Volleyball team came up short in a 3-1 loss on the road against Erskine in a Conference Carolinas contest on Friday evening.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
Hannah Sladick and Anixa Rosa-Martinez each posted 11 kills and 14 digs to record double-doubles in the loss. Ciara Ortega also recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs.
Katie Houston added a team-high 24 digs. Ann-Marie Johnson posted seven kills and two solo blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
After surrendering the opening two points, Chowan would rally to lead 6-3. Chloe Putnam started the scoring with a pair of kills. Katie Houston added a service ace and Ann-Marie Johnson tallied a block.
Erskine would rally to even the set at 6, 8, 10, and 12-all. The Hawks would push ahead 18-14 with a kill by Chloe Putnam and a pair by Hannah Sladick.
The Fleet would not allow the Hawks to get away as they took the lead 20-19. The two teams would trade points as Anixa Rosa-Martinez gave the Hawks a 25-24 lead.
Chowan would call a timeout tied at 28-all, but the delay would not affect the Fleet as they took the opening set, 30-28.
Second Set:
Chowan would lead 4-2 early as Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted an ace and Ann-Marie Johnson recorded a block.
Kills by Hannah Sladick and Anixa Rosa-Martinez led to two aces by Ciara Ortega led to a 12-7 advantage. Rosa-Martinez added another kill to push the lead to 15-9.
A pair of kills continued the momentum by Hannah Sladick to lead 19-12. The Hawks continued to push ahead as Sladick ended the set with a kill to knot the match at 1-1.
Third Set:
Both team continued to fight early in the set as the score was knotted at 7-all following a kill by Chloe Putnam. The Fleet would start to take the advantage with a 7-2 run.
Trailing 19-13, the Hawks would start to rally as a kill by Hannah Sladick, Ann-Marie Johnson, and Sydney Hiner closed the gap to 19-17. Johnson continued to keep the Hawks close with a kill.
Erskine strung together a couple of points to take the set 25-22.
Fourth Set:
Chowan would lead the fourth set 6-2 with a kill by Hannah Sladick and three straight aces by Katie Houston.
Erskine rallied to even the set at 8-all and once again at 11-all. The Fleet would take advantage of miscues by the Hawks to lead 20-13 and force a timeout.
The miscues continued following the timeout despite a small run by the Hawks. Ann-Marie Johnson added a kill and Sydney Hiner notched an ace to close the gap to 22-20.
The Fleet finished off the set with three kills to take the match.
