FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Chowan Volleyball team were not able to treat the road fans to a victory as the Hawks fell in straight sets to Emmanuel on Halloween evening.

Hannah Sladick paced the offense with 10 kills.  Anixa Rosa-Martinez would record eight kills, while Ann-Marie Johnson notched six kills.

Katie Houston posted a team-high 17 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Set:

Emmanuel would lead 7-3 early with Hannah Sladick recording the lone kill during the run.  Chowan would close the gap to 7-6 with a kill by Ann-Marie Johnson and a service ace by Sydney Hiner.

The Lions went on a 10-1 run to take a 17-7 advantage, Hannah Sladick posted the kill during the offensive stall.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez recorded five kills down the stretch to chip away at the deficit.  Hannah Sladick added two kills and Ann-Marie Johnson added one as Emmanuel took the opening set 25-18.

Second Set:

Both teams traded points early in the set with Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Ann-Marie Johnson recording a kill.  Alexa Woolson posted a service ace to trail 6-5 early.

Emmanuel pushed their advantage to 13-7 and again at 17-11.  Chloe Putnam would notch the first kill since the early going to trail 19-13.

Two blocks and a kill allowed the Lions to take the set 25-14.

Third Set:

After a quick 3-0 lead, the Hawks were able to take the lead 6-4.  Alyssa Carroll and Ann-Marie Johnson posted a pair of blocks to spark the rally.  Hannah Sladick and Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a kill each.

Emmanuel started to pull away in the middle of the set to lead 14-9.  The Hawks would close the gap to 15-14 to force a timeout.  Hannah Sladick added two kills followed by a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam.

Chowan continued to claw back but was unable to take the lead trimming deficits to one and two points.  Alyssa Carroll, Hannah Sladick and Ann-Marie Johnson closed the gap to 18-17.  Johnson added two more kills later in the set, 21-19.

Hannah Sladick notched the final kill in the match for the Hawks as Emmanuel took the sweep, 25-20.

Chowan returns to the court on Friday, November 1 as the Hawks face Erskine in Due West, S.C.  First serve is at 5pm.
