BELMONT, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team suffered a straight sets loss to Belmont Abbey on the road in league action on Saturday afternoon.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez paced the Hawks with 11 kills. Ann-Marie Johnson would tally seven kills.
Sydeny Hiner and Katie Houston produced 11 digs each.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Belmont Abbey opened the match with seven of the first eight points as Sydney Hiner registered the lone kill.
The Crusaders would extend their lead to 15-5 as Ann-Marie Johnson and Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill each.
Sydney Hiner and Ann-Marie Johnson would generate some offense with a kill as BAC led 18-9.
The Hawks would start to rally late in the set as a pair of kills by Ann-Marie Johnson and a pair of service aces by Sydney Hiner trimmed the deficit to 22-18.
The Crusaders took the set 25-18.
Second Set:
Chowan would lead 6-4 early as the Hawks would score four straight points. Hannah Sladick started the rally with a kill. Sydney Hiner would notch a kill before Ann-Marie Johnson and Sladick teamed up for a block. Sladick finished off the rally with a kill.
Back-to-back service aces by the Crusaders allowed them to take the lead 9-8.
The set would go back-and-forth until a four point spurt allowed BAC to lead 16-13. Another short burst opened the set up to 22-15.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted two kills before BAC took the set 25-17.
Third Set:
Sydney Hiner posted a kill and Katie Houston registered an ace before Belmont Abbey rattled off seven straight points to lead 9-3.
The Crusaders would push their lead to 16-5. Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched two kills to trim the deficit to 18-8.
Chloe Putnam registered a kill before Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched four straight kills in the set to take the set to 21-13.
Nyah Powers posted the final kill for the Hawks as Belmont Abbey took the set and match.

Chowan takes a step out of league play on Tuesday, October 29 to face UNC Pembroke. The match starts at 7pm and is the annual Dig Pink contest.
