ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team snapped their losing streak with a 3-1 win over rival, Elizabeth City State, on the road on Wednesday evening.

Hannah Sladick led the Hawks' attack with 10 kills. Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Ann-Marie Johnson notched eight kills each.
Alyssa Carroll would post seven kills, while Nyah Powers posted five kills. Alyssa Humes would record her first kill of her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Chowan would open up the match with an 11-3 advantage. Alyssa Carroll started the scoring with a kill. Ann-Marie Johnson and Anixa Rosa-Martinez would register a kill each before three service aces by Sydney Hiner.
Alyssa Carroll, Chloe Putnam, and Nyah Powers joined the attack with a kill each to push the advantage to 17-5 and force a timeout by the Vikings.
Out of the timeout, Hannah Sladick posted a pair of kills to increase the lead to 23-9.
Ann-Marie Johnson and Alyssa Carroll would end the set with a kill.
Second Set:
The two teams exchanged points for the early portion of the set as back-to-back kills by Hannah Sladick allowed the Hawks to lead 7-6.
Elizabeth City State would counter to lead 15-12. Alyssa Humes would notch a kill to pull the Hawks within two, 16-14.
Trailing 17-14, Chowan ran off 11 straight points to take the set. Nyah Powers sparked the run with a kill. Anixa Rosa-Martinez served out the rest of the set with three aces. Alyssa Carroll, Powers, and Hannah Sladick posted a kill to finish off the set, 25-17.
Third Set:
The back-and-forth continued into the third set as the Hawks trailed 6-3 early. Nyah Powers posted a kill and Anixa Rosa-Martinez recorded two aces to hand the Hawks an 8-6 lead.
The Vikings would battle back to even the set. ECSU would keep on top in the final portion of the set to take the set 25-22.
Fourth Set:
Elizabeth City State would lead 7-3 to open the fourth set. But the Hawks would rally to regain the lead 12-9. Anixa Rosa-Martinez would spark the rally with a kill. Ciara Ortega would dump in a kill before a string of attack errors by the Vikings kept the rally moving. Rosa-Martinez added two aces to take the lead.
The Vikings would regain the lead 18-17 to force a Chowan timeout.
Out of the timeout, Chowan would even the set at 23-all. Anixa Rosa-Martinez would record back-to-back kills to finish off the match.
