MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team dropped their fourth straight match in a 3-1 decision to Lees-McRae in Conference Carolinas action at home on Friday evening.

Sydney Hiner and Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted double-doubles in the contest with 10 kills each. Rosa-Martinez recorded 17 digs, while Hiner notched 14 digs.
Katie Houston led the team with 28 digs, Hannah Sladick had 14 digs.
Ann-Marie Johnson posted seven kills and three solo blocks. Ciara Ortega recorded 27 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Chowan and Lees-McRae battled back-and-forth in the set. Lees-McRae opened the set with a 5-1 lead as Hannah Sladick posted the lone kill for the Hawks. Two errors and another kill by Sladick allowed the Hawks to pull within one, 5-4.
Sydney Hiner registered a kill and Ann-Marie Johnson notched a block to put the Hawks on top 8-7. Johnson would post a kill before the Bobcats pushed their lead to 14-10.
The Bobcats would lead 17-13 before the Hawks rallied to even the set at 17-all. Hannah Sladick, Sydney Hiner, and Ann-Marie Johnson registered a kill.
Two errors by the Bobcats and a kill by Sydney Hiner allowed the Hawks to lead 21-19 and forced a LMC timeout. Ann-Marie Johnson notched a kill before the Bobcats regained the lead 23-22.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez posted two kills to even the set at 23 and 24. The Bobcats would find the final two points to take the set 26-24.
Second Set:
The back-and-forth continued in the set as Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Ann-Marie Johnson registered a kill apiece. Johnson would add a block in the rally to lead 6-4.
Chloe Putnam and Sydney Hiner would post a kill before Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Ann-Marie Johnson tallied a kill to lead 12-9.
The Hawks would extend their lead to 17-12 with a kill by Ciara Ortega and Sydney Hiner posted a kill. Hiner added a kill before a string of Bobcat errors led to a 23-18 advantage.
Ann-Marie Johnson gave the Hawks the set victory with a block for the 25-20 set win.
Third Set:
Chowan led the third set early, 5-4, on back-to-back kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez. A kill by Sydney Hiner and Rosa-Martinez pulled the Hawks within one, 9-8.
LMC would rattle off 10 straight points to take hold of the set 19-8. Sydney Hiner ended the rally with a kill. Chloe Putnam and Anixa Rosa-Martinez teamed up for a block to trim the deficit to 21-12.
The Bobcats finished off the set with four straight points to take the set 25-12.
Fourth Set:
After being awarded the opening point, Lees-McRae scored six of the next seven points to lead 6-2. Ann-Marie Johnson added a kill as mistakes by the Bobcats cut the deficit to 9-6.
LMC went on an 8-3 run before Anixa Rosa-Martinez notched a kill for the Hawks to trail 17-10.
Sydney Hiner posted the next kill for the Hawks and Chloe Putnam posted a block to cut into the Bobcat lead 22-15.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam posted the final kills of the set for the Hawks as LMC took the set and match 25-17.
