MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Volleyball team picked up the first set before falling in four to Conference Carolinas foe, King, on Saturday afternoon.

Anixa Rosa-Martinez led the charge with a double-double posting a career-high 16 kills and 22 digs. Sydney Hiner would add seven kills and 15 digs.
Katie Houston recorded a career-high 42 digs. Ciara Ortega produced 35 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set:
Both teams traded points early in the set. Alyssa Carroll would give the Hawks the first kill of the match. A run of kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez, Sydney Hiner, and Hannah Sladick evened the set at 12-all.
The Hawks would stay in front with kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Chloe Putnam to give Chowan a 20-16 lead.
Sydney Hiner's kill and Alyssa Carroll's block forced a King timeout, 23-19. Carroll would finish off the set with a kill to give the Hawks a 25-20 victory.
Second Set:
The Hawks would open the set with the first three points on a kill by Hannah Sladick and Sydney Hiner.
The Tornado countered with nine straight points to take the lead 11-4. Hannah Sladick ended the run with a kill.
Sydney Hiner sparked a run by the Hawks with an ace followed by a kill by Hannah Sladick and Anixa Rosa-Martinez. Hiner ended the run with an ace to trim the deficit to 13-12.
Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a kill as King pulled away 20-14. Alyssa Carrol registered a block and Sydney Hiner added a kill to trim the deficit.
King would take the second set, 25-19.
Third Set:
King opened the third set on a 5-1 run with Chloe Putnam adding the lone kill for the Hawks. Nyah Powers posted a block to close the disadvantage to 5-3.
The Tornado added to their lead, 12-6, with Anixa Rosa-Martinez notching a kill. Rosa-Martinez added two more kills along with Tornado miscues to close the gap to 13-12.
Both teams went on mini runs before settling the score at 17-all. Anixa Rosa-Martinez added a kill and two service aces.
King fought ahead to a 24-19 lead. Alyssa Carroll and two kills by Anixa Rosa-Martinez pulled the Hawks to within two, 24-22, before King finished the set with a kill.
Fourth Set:
Anixa Rosa-Martinez was the only offense for the Hawks early in the set. Sydney Hiner evened the set at 7-all with a kill. King countered with four straight kills.
The Tornado added to their advantage with five straight points to lead 18-11.
A block by Alyssa Carroll and Hannah Sladick paired with a kill by Anixa Rosa-Martinez and Carroll trimmed the deficit to 20-18.
Chowan was unable to gain any ground as King took the set and match 25-21.
