MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team had a 15 point lead at the half slip away as Bowie State held the Hawks to 11 points in the second half to hand the Hawks a 47-45 loss in CIAA Northern Division play on Saturday afternoon.

Mariah Coker led the Hawks with 12 points. Danielle Weldon missed out on a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Jada Lee chipped in with eight points and five assists.
The Bowie State defense held the Hawks to 18.2% shooting in the second half for a total of 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Mariah Coker gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead knocking down a triple to start the scoring. After a free throw by Danielle Weldon, Coker knocked down back-to-back triples to stretch the advantage to 10-4.
Danielle Weldon and Jada Lee added a jumper and Kaylah Henderson tallied a free throw to lead 15-4 after the opening quarter.
Second Quarter:
Back-to-back buckets by Joanne Williams offset the points by the Bulldogs early in the quarter. Jordan Pettaway knocked down a three-pointer and Jada Lee scored four points to push the lead to 26-12.
Four quick points by Danielle Weldon and a layup by Olivia Gaither extended the advantage to 32-15 midway through the quarter.
Both teams were unable to score late in the quarter with Olivia Gaither knocking down a jumper. Chowan led 34-19 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
Jada Lee knocked down a jumper in the paint just 12 seconds into the quarter. Bowie State cut into the deficit with a 6-0 run. Danielle Weldon would tally the final basket of the quarter for the Hawks at the 3:33 mark.
Bowie State went on a 10-1 run to finish off the quarter to trim the deficit to 39-35.
Fourth Quarter:
Teylahna Green knocked down a three-pointer to give the Hawks some breathing room, 42-35. Mariah Coker knocked down a triple to offset the Bulldogs' points.
The Bulldogs' defense forced four shot clock violations to spark a 9-0 run to take the contest, 47-45.
