MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start as the Hawks dropped a CIAA Northern Division contest against Lincoln (Pa.) 77-51 on Wednesday evening.

Danielle Weldon paced the Hawks with a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Olivia Gaither chipped in with 10 points. Jordan Pettaway recorded a career-high 11 rebounds.
Chowan shot 24.7% from the floor in the contest including 16.1% (5-31) in the first half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Lincoln jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before Danielle Weldon added two points from the charity stripe. The Lions would go on an 8-0 run to lead 15-2. Weldon scored the next six points for the Hawks to trim the deficit to 16-8.
Kaylah Henderson added a fastbreak layup to wrap up the quarter trailing 18-10.
Second Quarter:
Jordan Pettaway recorded a putback to open the scoring in the quarter. Lincoln stretched their lead to 25-12 before Mariah Coker knocked down a triple.
Olivia Gaither posted a pair at the stripe as Lincoln extended the lead to 37-17 at the half.
Third Quarter:
Olivia Gaither knocked down a three-pointer on the opening possession of the half. Jordan Pettaway and Jada Lee added jumpers but was unable to cut into the deficit.
Danielle Weldon scored seven straight points for the Hawks as Lincoln led 52-33 late in the quarter.
Chowan would trail 53-36 heading to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Lincoln pushed their lead to 59-39 before Olivia Gaither knocked down a three-pointer and a layup. Danielle Weldon added an old-fashioned three-point play.
Jada Lee added two buckets during the stretch as Lincoln's lead swelled to 77-49. Mariah Coker hit a jumper in the paint to finish off the contest.
