MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Men's Basketball team suffered their first home loss of the season in a 68-57 loss to Bowie State in CIAA Northern Division action on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Kelly led the Hawks with a career-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Kelly went 3-4 from behind the arc. Gus Rowland added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Chowan went 4-21 (19.0%) from behind the arc in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Timothy Bing gave the Hawks an early 3-2 lead with a three-pointer. Back-to-back buckets by Michael Kelly and a pair from the stripe by Bing allowed the Hawks to lead 9-4. Kelly knocked down a three-pointer to double-up the Bulldogs early.
Deon Joyner hit a jumper and Gus Rowland tallied a layup to keep the Hawks ahead 16-10.
Bowie State would start chipping away with an 8-2 run to even the contest at 18-all. Brandon Mayhan tallied a pair from the stripe. Demetrius Sanders posted a jumper but the Bulldogs answered on the next possession.
Gus Rowland added a layup in transition and a put-back to lead 26-22. BSU would even the score at 26-all. The lead would switch hands as Deon Joyner gave the Hawks a one point lead before the Bulldogs hit a jumper to end the half and lead 30-29 at the half.
Second Half:
Michael Kelly knocked down a three-pointer to put the Hawks on the board in the half and regain the lead 32-30. Kelly would add another three-pointer and a dunk to keep Chowan ahead, 37-34. Kelly continued to score for the Hawks with a layup off a pass from Timothy Bing.
Bowie State used a 15-4 run to force a Chowan timeout midway through the half as the Bulldogs took the lead 50-43. Deon Joyner ended the run out of the timeout with a layup, but BSU answered on the other end.
Gus Rowland added a layup to trim the deficit to single-digits, 56-48, at 60-51, and again at 62-53.
The Bulldogs padded their lead at the charity stripe to seal the 68-57 victory.
