SALISBURY, N.C. – The Chowan Women's Basketball team erupted in the second half on their way to a 76-55 road victory over Livingstone in CIAA cross-divisional action on Monday evening.

Jada Lee led the Hawks with 13 points, while Teylahna Green posted a career-high 11 points. Olivia Gaither chipped in with 10 points. Danielle Weldon fell short of a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.
Chowan's defense held the hot-shooting Blue Bears to 2-12 in the second half from behind the arc after shooting 50 percent (6-12) in the first.
The Hawks scored a season-high 33 points in the third quarter and held Livingstone to 22 points in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Chowan jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead as Olivia Gaither knocked down a triple to put the Hawks on the board. Danielle Weldon add a bucket during the run. Livingstone countered with a 6-0 run to lead 6-5 early in the opening quarter.
Olivia Gaither would give the Hawks the lead back knocking down another trey along with a layup by Destiny Robinson to lead 10-8. Joanne Williams jumped into the scoring column with a layup after Jada Lee and Kaylah Henderson drew charges on the defensive end.
Jordan Pettaway scored the final bucket of the quarter to give the Hawks a 14-9 lead.
Second Quarter:
Livingstone connected from deep on their first two possessions of the quarter to regain the lead, but Jordan Pettaway answered with a triple and Jada Lee notched a bucket to hand the lead back to the Hawks early in the quarter, 19-16.
Once again, Livingstone went on a run to regain the lead knocking down a three-pointer in transition. Jordan Pettaway posted the lone basket for the Hawks as the Blue Bears pushed ahead, 29-22, with the 13-3 run.
Teylahna Green knocked down a three-pointer to end the run, but the Blue Bears would answer on the other end. Green converted from the charity stripe for a pair to edge the Hawks closer, 32-27.
Jordan Pettaway continued to keep the Hawks in the contest with a jumper after a Livingstone three-pointer as Chowan trailed 35-31 at the intermission.
Third Quarter:
Chowan used a 13-3 run to lead 44-38. Danielle Weldon started off the run with a jumper. Mariah Coker knocked down a triple followed by back-to-back buckets by Jada Lee. The Blue Bears would post a three-point play but Jahkeria Bagby notched two buckets to keep the run going.
After a Danielle Weldon put-back, Jada Lee gave the Hawks a double-digit lead with a pair of free throws. Another run by the Hawks, 7-1, allowed the lead to grow to 16, 58-42.
Joanne Williams and Olivia Gaither contributed two points along with a layup by Destiny Robinson gave the Hawks a 64-47 advantage heading to the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Destiny Robinson started the scoring for the Hawks in the quarter on a layup off the assist from Jada Lee. Livingstone tallied back-to-back buckets and trimmed the deficit to 14, 67-53, before Kaylah Henderson tallied a layup.
Teylahna Green knocked down a three-pointer to give the Hawks a 20 point lead, 73-53, with 3:30 to play. Dierra Carter notched the final tally of the contest for the Hawks.

Chowan returns home on Saturday, January 19 as the Hawks host cross-town rival, Elizabeth City State. Tip-off is slated for 2pm.
