WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the first time this season, the Chowan Men's Basketball team dropped back-to-back contests as the Hawks fell to Winston-Salem State in CIAA action on Saturday afternoon, 90-84.

Timothy Bing led the Hawks with 24 points grabbing 12 of those from the charity stripe. Gus Rowland notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 assists.
Demetrius Sanders scored 16 points, while Deon Joyner tallied 13 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Deon Joyner put the Hawks on the board before WSSU went on an 8-0 run. Gus Rowland ended the run with a jumper. Joyner would go on a 5-0 run himself to pull the Hawks to within six, 16-10. Timothy Bing dialed up a three-pointer but the Rams answered at the other end.
Michael Kelly connected from deep to keep the Hawks close, but a quick spurt by the Rams pushed the advantage to double-digits, 27-16.
The Rams kept an 8-10 point lead for most of the half as Gus Rowland, Demetrius Sanders, and Ugljesa Portic exchanged buckets.
Timothy Bing converted three free throws from the stripe and Ugljesa Portic hit a layup to end the half as the Hawks trailed 46-38.
Second Half:
After an early bucket by the Rams, Chowan rattled off nine straight points to pull within one, 48-47. Demetrius Sanders started the run with a jumper in the paint. Michael Kelly and Timothy Bing notched a pair from the stripe before Kelly dialed up a three-pointer.
WSSU stretched the lead back to seven, 56-49, as Gus Rowland tallied the lone bucket for the Hawks. Ugljesa Portic traded three-pointers along with a layup by Timothy Bing kept the Hawks close.
An 8-1 run by the Hawks closed the gap to three, 65-62. Deon Joyner sparked the run with a jumper along with a layup and a three-pointer by Demetrius Sanders. Gus Rowland and Timothy Bing connected from deep to even the score at 70-all with 7:37 remaining.
Demetrius Sanders kept the score knotted after trading triples. WSSU continued to stay a possession ahead as Deon Joyner tallied four points.
WSSU salted away the victory at the stripe despite Timothy Bing converting all three free throws and adding a layup to end the contest.

Chowan will look to rebound as the Hawks wrap up the road trip on Monday, January 14. The Hawks will take on Livingstone in CIAA action. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm.
