MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Softball team will be making their fourth NCAA Atlantic Regional appearance on Thursday in the Atlantic I Regional hosted by Lock Haven.
Chowan will meet the top-seeded West Chester in the opening game for the second straight season. The Hawks earned the No. 8 seed and will compete against No. 1 West Chester, No. 4 Lock Haven, and No. 5 Shepherd in the Atlantic I Region side of the double-elimination bracket.

Chowan enters the postseason with a 31-14 overall record after capturing their fourth CIAA Championship in Salem, Va. last week.
Lindsey Stigler leads the team with a .439 batting average, 11 home runs, and 43 RBI. CIAA Player of the Year, Kris Neal, sits with a .400 average including a team-leading 56 hits and four triples.
CIAA Rookie of the Year, Beth Walker, is second on the club with 10 home runs and 41 RBI while sporting a .354 batting average.
Shannon Buchanan, CIAA Pitcher of the Year, has a 16-6 record in the circle with a 2.81 ERA and 102 strikeouts. Shelby Griffis is 12-7 in the circle.
THE OPPONENTS
West Chester grabbed the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Regional after a 40-13 overall record. The Golden Rams fell to Gannon in the PSAC Championship game.
The No. 4 seed, Lock Haven, sports a 36-12 overall record and went 20-0 in PSAC action, but fell to West Chester in the PSAC semifinals.
Shepherd, the No. 5 seed, enters with a 33-18 overall mark after falling in the Mountain East tournament.
The winner between Chowan/West Chester will face the winner between Lock Haven/Shepherd on Friday, May 11 at 11am while the losers will play at 1:30pm on Friday in the double-elimination bracket.
