HAWKS HIGHLIGHTS
Chowan took the quickest path through the CIAA Softball Championships with three wins to remain in the winner's bracket. The Hawks opened the championships with a 9-1 win against Shaw. CU went on to run-rule Fayetteville State (13-3) before beating Winston-Salem State (7-1) in the Semifinals.
Lindsey Stigler leads the squad with a .778 batting average. EmaRae Flores leads the tournament with four home runs and eight RBI.
Haley Cooper is hitting .727 with a team leading eight hits and three doubles.
Shannon Buchanan is 2-0 in the tournament with a 0.69 ERA in 13.0 innings of work. Shelby Griffis picked up the win against Fayetteville State in the first meeting in the tournament. The pitching staff is allowing 2.00 runs per contest while the opposing staffs are allowing 13.50.
BRONCOS NOTES
Fayetteville State is 15-24 on the season and on a three game win streak. The Broncos won their opening round game against Virginia State before falling to the Hawks in the second game.
FSU had to pick up three straight wins on the second day to advance to the championship game. The Broncos defeated St. Augustine's and Shaw before picking up the extra-inning win against Winston-Salem 11-10.
CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
Chowan is appearing in their seventh CIAA Softball Championship in their ninth try. The Hawks have claimed the Championship three times (2010, 2013, and 2017).
