SALEM, VA. – For the seventh time in nine seasons, the Chowan Softball Team advanced to the CIAA Softball Championship game following a 7-1 victory over Winston-Salem State on Tuesday afternoon.

Kris Neal paced the Hawks at the plate with three hits. EmaRae Flores continued to show her strength with two home runs and driving in four runs.
Haley Cooper and Lindsey Stigler picked up two hits. Brittany Parson drove in a run.
Shannon Buchanan picked up win 15 on the season with a three hit outing and struck out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kris Neal started off the inning with an infield single and swiped second base. Haley Cooper drew a walk before Lindsey Stigler doubled to right center for the opening run of the game.
Chowan added a run in the second inning as Kris Neal doubled to left with two-outs. Haley Cooper singled down the line to score Neal for the 2-0 lead.
EmaRae Flores hit her second home run of the tournament with a solo blast down the left field line to extend the Hawks' advantage to 3-0.
Winston-Salem broke up the no-hitter in the top of the fourth as a ball dropped in to right field.
The Hawks extended the lead to 7-0 in the sixth inning as Haley Cooper singled up the middle with one out. Lindsey Stigler drew a walk before Brittany Parson singled to score Cooper. EmaRae Flores hit her second home run of the game and third of the tournament with a three-run home run to left center for the 7-0 advantage.
The Rams looked to claw back into the contest in the top of the seventh as a walk and a double produced the only run for the Rams.

Chowan will face the winner between Winston-Salem State and Fayetteville State in the CIAA Championship game on Wednesday, May 2 at 1pm.
