HOW IT HAPPENED

Chowan jumped out in front in the bottom of the first as Kris Neal drew a walk and swiped second.  Haley Cooper brought Neal home for the opening run of the contest with a single.  Lindsey Stigler singled down the third base line to bring home Cooper.  Two more runs would score on a fielding error and a Miranda Glover single to push the score to 4-0.

Fayetteville State cut into the deficit with a three run fourth inning on four base hits.

The Hawks would counter with a nine run outburst in the bottom of the inning as Haley Cooper doubled to spark the rally.  Lindsey Stigler drew a walk and Brittany Parson singled to load the bases.  A fielder's choice pushed the lead to 5-3 before EmaRae Flores hit a three run homer to extend the lead to 8-3.

A two-out dropped fly ball in right field allowed the inning to continue for the Hawks.  Miranda Glover singled to left and moved to third on a miscue by the shortstop allowing Donya Salman to score.  Base hits by Kris Neal, Haley Cooper, and Lindsey Stigler, along with a walk by Mackenzie Taggart continued the rally to push the Hawks to a 13-3 advantage.

Shelby Griffis made quick work in the fifth to seal the victory.
